COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask, Occasional;
Available all year round. Black and Tan is traditionally a mix of Stout and Pale Ale .... the Fox & Hounds customers started mixing Warlock Stout with Killellan and they loved the result ..... they think it’s a winning blend .... now you can try it too.

Tasted this at the Bull Inn, Paisley in April 2006. Cask, handpump dispense. Ruby black in colour with a thick creamy white head. Very like Auld Scoop in colour. Sweet syrupy raisin fruit in the short aroma. Creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malts gives a rich maltloaf base with raisin, sultanas and brambles. There is a hint of hop resins in the aftertaste but short lived. Finish is sweet and fruity with plump raisins present right to the end. An excellent session Scottish Porter and highly recommended.

On gravity at the Swindon beer festival 27/10/2011. Near black with a slight tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, plain chocolate and charcoal. Flavour had plenty more fruit, black coffee and a dryish finish with a touch of hoppiness, Enjoyable.

Cask @ Old Mill, Brodie
Appearance - Brown, with ruby edges in glass. 1 finger thick white head.
Aroma - Caramel malts, a little roast, whiff of vegetables.
Taste - Roasted malts, some coffee, dark bitter chocolate, fruity malts, although many flavours were muted and not well balanced.
Palate - Very bitter dry finish, rather astringent and unpleasant
Overall - OK but not great. I’ve had this before and it has been much better. Probably a dodgy batch. Needs re-rating in future. 230711

From cask at Albert Tavern, Freuchie, Scotland. Hazy dark amber brown colour, creamy off white head. Aroma of lots of hops, light sulphur, citrus, hint of coffee. Flavour is citrus, light roasted malts, light sweet, strong bitter hoppy finish. Dry and juicy mouthfeel, light to medium bodied. Nice.

Cask, gravity, at Bedford Beer Festival ’10. According to the programme notes, this is a blend of Killellan Bitter and Warlock Stout. Dark brown with a small off white head. Faint slightly fruity aroma. Plummy, ashy taste with some apple peel, followed by sharp bitterness. Wasn’t particularly keen on this.
