Originally created by a Flander’s home-brewer, this spiced amber ale is rather hoppy with a soft body.

25cl bbJUN16, longtime cupboard treasure trove. Dirtily transparent golden amber pour. Odd pear drops and Poire Williams in aroma, along with sweet ginger, caramel and a host of yeasty offishness: green dishwashing liquid, sweet yoghurt, flower petals, tacky hibiscus in cheap prosecco. Tastes like old pear syrup with a dash of Poire Williams, a dash of sour mash grains - et puis fini. - Might have suffered a bit from its time at the back of the cupboard, but: odd mix of spices and flavours on top of a fruity yeasty freeforall, pairing cardboard dryness with fruit caramel slickness in mouthfeel. Neither quencing nor a degustational joy - a true Strubbe.

19/XII/15 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Oostakker) @ home - BB: 29/IV/17 (2015-1737)

Clear deep orange to red beer, creamy irregular off-white head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: sweet and sugary, some candy, forest fruit, bubble gum, cough syrup. MF: medium to light body. Taste: very malty, grains, hay, little bitter, sourish touch. Aftertaste: bit hoppy, malts, little metallic.

25cl bottle at home. Somewhat pale orange / amber with a small white soapy head. Light to medium body with fizzy carbonation. Herbal sweet and bitter tones. Flowers, herbs, citrus and grass. Too much carbonation and too herbal for my taste.

Cuivrée, grosse carbo, collet epais et persistant, belle dentelle. Aromes pomme verte, épices et caramel. Saveurs plutot fruités et douce avec un sucre doux un peu trop présent. Tres courte et sans vraiment de relief

Bottle share at Hotel Centrum, Beersel. Dark amber orange, still, foamy off-white head, full lacing. Aroma is apple, vanilla biscuits, cask. Quite nice. Body is light, tingly carbonation, smooth. Taste is vanilla, biscuit, apple, bubblegum. Has a dry finish but it’s tangy sweet up to that point. Decent.

Bottle split at the Centrum Hotel, Beersel, 20/11/15. Clear golden with a big ole egg shell white covering that retains well. Nose is light spice, yeast esters, bread, trace of ginger, light herbal, dark fruit flash. Taste comprises sweet malt, caramel, candied fruit peel, sweet, light ginger. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent for style.

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2016 Fles 25 cl. uitgeschonken in Sint Crispijn bierglas. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
