3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown beer with a small brown head. Rich nose with malts, grain and straw, lots of roasted malt and caramel in the flavour. A bit sweet, and nice hoppy bitterness the finish. The body is quite thin and the carbnation is moderate. Overall a quite tasty beer.

50cl, impressive fliptop bottle. "Hövels Original Bitterbier" now becoming "Feinherbes Rotgold" is a hop extract-based macro Alt, preserving the bulk of its key style tastes: semi-dry aromatic caramalts, spicy-dry tea-leaf hops, copper-red hue. Finishes on a lingering leafy, earschmalz&pine-metallic bitter finish. All elements are in place, there is a lot to love here, especially in the constricted context of German styles, but it feels as if this mix falls behind the potential of its ingredients (both barley and wheat malt, an oddly potent hop extract) due to hasty production (cf. inexpressive yeast and dead aroma). Dry,earthy and hop-forward, quickly becoming my favourite traditional German style.

Sampled on draft at Germany in Epcot this beer poured a dark toffee color with a medium sized foamy beige head that left decent lacing. The aroma was dryish , woody and nutty. The flavor was nutty, bready, woody and malty with faint hints of smoke. Medium length dryish, nutty and woody finish. Medium body. Decent.

Beige head and hazy earthy coloured. Noses of a bit straw and light hops/maltiness. Bitter and light sour on the palate developing a thin sweetness. Thin finish. Disappointed for what I expected.
