Uhhhhh... when don’t I want to drink a litre of oatmeal stout??? Every time I fill the glass tonight I will do at least 6 push ups. Found a ruby red tinge up to a light. Big bubbly light brown skull. The aroma is kind of weak. Oatmeally chocolatey toasted nose with vanilla tagging on with the choco. The taste is pretty good with nothing too strong unless you give the roast the strong nod. Good malty flavour with a wonderful soft bitterness, faint fruit I think, a bit nutty with a smaller faint vanilla note. A bit drying, good smooth roasted malts on the finish. A pretty quick review but nothing changed from the early third of the bottle. Very easy drinking, no where near as interesting as I was hoping. This is a highly drinkable, simple brew consumable in mass quantities. I did a grand total of zero push ups. Popcorn is ready!

There really is a wide spectrum going on in this beer, not like I expected. Definitive coffee aroma, sweet and toasty malts and a musky yeast. Pretty thick head on the pout, nice and dark, flavours as they smell except you get a little smoothed out mellowness in the middle to end of it, oh yes, that’s right this is an ’oatmeal’ stout. Just where it should be in the flavour. Just a touch thin on the ending, could’ve used more hops... heh, I know that is a cliche on this site but the % and the thickness of the beer deserve just a bit ’stouter’ of a sendoff. Nicely done.

1L brown flip top. Pours deep brown-near black with deep red tints. Big 3 finger light brown head with a creamy texture, lots of lace. Nose has roast malts, some coffee, a bit of sweetness. Taste is of medium roast coffee and roasted malt, chocolate, a bit of caramel, nice hop notes add some bitterness on top of the roast. Medium bodied, average carbonation, some creaminess. Pretty solid stout, good session brew. 1L seems to be an ideal serving size for this particular brew.

1L swingtop bottle pours black in color with a small beige head with a few spots of lacing. Aroma is intense roasted malts, cocoa and coffee. Taste is roasted malt bitterness with some chocolate sweetness and a moderate hoppy bitter finish. A little light bodied for a stout.

Diamond Head pours a purely opaque black with a finger of foamy tan head. The nose is robust and well roasted with a nice burnt note. Hints of cocoa, coffee, liquorice and nuts. The taste is roasty and heavy with a big burnished note, cocoa, coffee and oatmeal. A light English hop on the finish with a mild bitterness. A dry, prolonged finish with a lovely chewy mouthfeel. Overall, a great easy drinking stout.

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2013 On tap at Alibi room in Gastown. Pours black as the ace of spades. Not much aroma. Highly roasted malts come through here. Little hops. Very dry. Nice.

One-litre swingtop brought back. Brown with a thick soapy head. Good roast aroma. Hits the spot on style. Lace dots. A sourish acidic edge and also well malted down. Still good drinkability.

pours coffee black, ok lacing, semi-fine bubbles. Mildly roasted, deep malts, slightly sour, medium bitter with hints of chocolate. Light-medium bodied, medium depth, low-medium complexity, and low-medium length. Not particularly interesting flavours, but a decent stout nonetheless. Nothing wow here.

Draught at the brewpub
Very dark brown color, with nice red beams near the edges; creamy head; nice lace. Breadish aroma, and some roasted malt. Smooth mouthfeel; roasted malt flavor with character; late, light liquorice; correct bitterness. Overall balanced. Very good.
