Pours a golden brown with a modest head and great lacing. Lovely, spicy aroma, fruitcake or pumpkin pie. Flavour is tart at first, but as the alcohol warms the finish the spices come out nicely. Creamy body, good carb. A bit too spicy to maintain a real sense of balance, but very tasty all the same.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Nena (963) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 21, 2011
Has a straightforward caramelized sweet nose that gives a nice spiced bread pudding impression. Very sweet molasses flavor and toffee flavor, a bit of gingerbread and pumpkin spices, figs. This is very sticky stuff, not a lot of bitterness coming through the sugars, but

On tap. Pours brown with little head. Aromas of malt and spice. Heavy spice flavors of nutmeg and all spice. Simply a pumpkin beer a month later. Needs to be fuller and sweeter to balance the spice and pass as a Xmas beer in my mind. Pass

UPDATED: JUN 10, 2010 Love those wonderful one-litre swing top bottles so favoured by Howe Sound! A creamy tan head started out at perhaps two fingers in depth, and then fell away, slowly, to a quarter-inch, all this taking some five minutes. The body was a lovely dark amber, and the aroma was malt, spices, and a suggestion of dark fruit. Much the same for the taste, along with a mouthfeel I can only class as "solid". Finished smooth with just a hint of sweetness. THis is my new favourite Christmas season beer.

Bottle. Pours a red orange color. Good size head and good head retention. Lots of spice and sweetness in the nose. Lots of nutmeg and malts as well. Taste is the same. Very sweet nutmeg and malts. Well balanced in my opinion. i think the sweetness could have easily gotten out of hand. Very good beer and hope to see it again next year.

Amber brown with a tan head. Lots of mulling spices, smells of gingerbread and dark fruit. Quite sweet, finishes dry. Some clove, some ginger, not too bad for the style.
