I don’t like black licorice but this was in a sample pack. Gorgeous pour and head, nice aroma but docking lots simply because I don’t like the flavour.

Bottle: chouffe glass: Black beer brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, raisin, liquorice, bay leaf. Flavours of liquorice, bay leaf, some roast, mocha, bitters and some raisin. Aftertaste is bitter raisin, liquorice and some mocha. Low carbo, light creamy mouthfeel, more than medium bodied.

Purchased in Vermont. Pours a dark brown, almost black colour with a light brown coloured head. Pure black licorice nose. Some in the taste, but not as much. Wow ! What a great beer with anise and loads more. Goes down nicely for a high alcohol brew.

Thanks to errl for sharing this growler. Dark brown pour with a tan head. The aroma is full of a ridiculous amount of licorice. The flavor is more of the same. This one is completely one dimensional. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Since I am not a fan of black licorice, I was not a fan of this beer.

Pours a three finger light tan head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Black color, no highlights. Good carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Licorice nose and flavor is licorice, some malt, smooth. Good - not a wussy beer. The high ABV is hidden. $10.49 for a 1L flip-top bottle from Julio’s Liquors Westborough, Ma.

From notes: From a bottle it is a dark brown with a slight head. The aroma is black licorice and the taste is coffee and some licorice notes.

Bottle. Blackish beer with a brown head. Licorice and rich malt aroma with light roast. Licorice flavor with light caramel and chocolate. Medium bodied. Licorice and caramel lingers with light chocolate.

Deep dark brown, pretty much black in colour. Frothy head that is a light brown colour. Aroma of liquorice. Taste of liquorice and nuts with a sweet and bitter taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Woah now! What a name! I love it. Jet black pour. Hints of anise, sugar, booze, roast, and caramel on the nose. Flavors are strong in the thick molasses department, singing on anise and alcohol. Hints of cocoa in there somewhere as well. While it’s not all blended perfectly, it’s loud and smooth enough to where my palate found this apparently much more appealing than a lot of raters out there. YuM!
