3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours opaque sable with a thick tan head. Licorice dominates the aroma but gladly shares the stage with toasted malt and a hint of mocha. Flavor features plenty of licorice, as well as roast malt, coffee, molasses and chocolate undertones. A bit sweet, but good. Mouthfeel offers decent fizz and body. 4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Large shared bottle with a flip top ceramic top.
Pours thick and dark with a good head.
Aroma -back licorice and fainter black bread
Flavor - dominated by black licorice but with the stout showing as well. The licorice prominent but is not as strong as in, say, black jelly beans. Lightly sweet at an appropriate level.
Overall: easily recomended for fans of licorice and stouts.

UPDATED: JUN 20, 2015 Iím a fan of black licorice, so this had potential for me, despite the middling scores. I am always amazed that people spend what they do on a beer, and then put in the review of a chocolate stout "I hate chocolate" or they hate hops yet rate hundreds of IPAs. I was wondering if the lowish scores here reflected a large number of people that just donít care for black licorice, or something else.
Anyway, starts off nice. Big black licorice and roasted malt aroma. Looks great...black with thick brown head. The flavor and feel is where it went south for me. Too over the top in the flavor...almost medicinal in quality and overly bitter. Not bad, but not something very good in more than a taster size...which makes the 32 oz format seem ridiculous. The worst part for me was the anise burn at the back of the mouth and all the down my throat to my belly, that ruined what could have still been a pleasant flavor. Overall, had some good things going for it, but didnít want to finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Opaque black liquid with medium tan head. Aroma of licorice, coffee, chocolate, biscuit, toast and salt. Taste is light sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of licorice, coffee and chocolate. Medium to full bodied with medium carbonation. Decent but too much licorice for my taste.

Finally will try this got it on tap because I will not pay that obscene price for that big bottle. Looks black in my glass..... no cap. My Wilbur taste fantastic today. Smells like black liquorice and Guiness. Taste the same...... Some alcohol heat. I do not enjoy black liquorice but this seems to work. It really works....... Dam do I have to go buy a bottle now? Review is shit the beer is good...... not great.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Interesting combo, the licorice is much more pronounced than I would have thought, taste more so than aroma. Pours out like black motor oil, nice fluffy beige head, slick body. Aroma is combo of chocolate licorice and burnt toast. Taste is more robust, tons of anise/licorice. A bit sweet, and lots of lingering burn.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Loved it capped bottle with a swing top pours deep black in color with a massive mocha colored head with great retention eventually settling to some spotted lacing. Aroma is dominated by licorice with some roasted notes. Taste is also licorice dominant with some roasted grains and chocolate underneath. A solid imperial stout, but would be better if the licorice didnít dominate so much
