Aroma: dark deep character , aromatic , slightly herbal with licorice hints.
Appearance: oily , thick black brew , lighter top. 3+
Palate / Taste: Medium bodied. Fairly low carbonation. Smooth feel with overwhelming approach of licorice. To many it might become overpowering. Licorice all the way. Well made yet rather one sided brew. Love or hate it.

Dark brown with light tan head. Aroma is all licorice, very nice. Opens with heavy licorice but fades fairly quickly. Not a lot else going on. Medium body and carb. Pretty nice beer.

1 liter swing top bottle, thanks Poisoneddwarf- Pours black with a beautiful huge creamy dark tan head with good retention and nice cobwebby lace. Aroma is all anise (licorice), my problem is you don’t get much else, it is appealing though. The taste is the same, licorice, overbearing licorice, if you love licorice you will love this, but if you don’t the opposite, I am in the middle, it is okay, I would like some other flavors in there. Body is huge, carbonation is medium to soft. This is different, licorice galore.

1 L swingtop bottle. Pours opaque black with a thick beige head that leaves sheeting lace. Aroma is full of licorice and that’s all I really smell. Tastes just like a bag of quality black licorice, which is a good flavor in my opinion. Starts out a little sweet before turning bitter. Mouthfeel = creamy, carbonation just right. Overall, an extreme beer that tastes good and isn’t over the top for a palate that’s ready for this type of shit. For the uninitiated, stay away.

One-liter swing top, shared at the poker table. Very dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma is overpowering black licorice, with maybe a bit of soy sauce. Acrid black licorice flavour, very one dimensional. It became almost nauseating for me. I couldn’t finish my share. I don’t think anyone did.

1L capped bottle with a swing top pours deep black in color with a massive mocha colored head with great retention eventually settling to some spotted lacing. Aroma is dominated by licorice with some roasted notes. Taste is also licorice dominant with some roasted grains and chocolate underneath. A solid imperial stout, but would be better if the licorice didn’t dominate so much.

Howler to goblet Licorice, molasses, maybe nutmeg. Deep reddish brown with a bubbly brown head. Taste is sour with black licorice. Nice full bodied with a nice bite at the end.

One liter, capped, fliptopped. Pours jet black with a dense and creamy tan mousse that really sticks around. Unbelievably bombastic nose...ultra intense liquorice jetwash of aromatics. It’s like when luke spent the night in the taunton he killed on hoth, and han commented on how pungent they are. This beer turns you into luke skywalker, spending the night huddled for survival inside a taunton made of anise. and paint thinner. Sticking my face in the mug to pick up the aromatics actually made my eyes burn. I’m not saying that to be dickish, it really did made my eyes burn. Creamy thick goopy, oozy body. Sluggish carb. Intense roasty, ashy, peaty, earthy, anisey mid palate. Long ashy finish.

Great mix between pronounced licorice and dark imperial stout. Huge black body and head, but a sweet finish. This could have been awful but ended up quite spectacular.

On tap at Alibi Room in Gastown. Wow! The licorice really comes on strong here. It’s okay, but I prefer slightly more complexity in my stouts.
