4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
It pours with a thin head atop a dark amber body. The bouquet is fruity but not overpowering, with traces of lemon, pumpkin and spice. Itís brewed with barley, fresh roasted pumpkin, hops, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise, water and yeast, but the taste isnít quite as complex as all of those ingredients would suggest. The pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg flavours are strongest, but donít dominate to the detriment of balance, which this has a lot of. It has a smooth yet crisp finish. This is an eight-per cent alcohol strong ale that doesnít taste that strong. I like that and I like this beer overall. It comes in a one-litre bottle with a fliptop cap so you donít have to drink it all at once, but I couldnít resist finishing it. The Squamish, B.C. brewery makes this in very limited quantities as part of its John Mitchell Series, so snap it up while you can. Happy Halloween.

Big, 1L flip top bottle.Pours a clear dark caramel colour with a one finger, off-white head that thins to a film quickly. Slight lacing. Aroma has notes of pumpkin, alcohol, dark fruits, and spices.Taste is balanced and pleasant with a warm, spiced, pumpkin aftertaste.Medium body with a low-medium carbonation. Fairly clean in the mouth with a smooth finish.Overall one of my favorite pumpkin beers. Very nice for sipping away at after a fine dinner. Smooth and balanced. Great flavour and texture.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Really wonderful. Has a good creamy fulness and body that is not too malt-sticky on the palate and plenty of warm autumnal flavors going on - rooty allspice, sweet squash, banana, apple butter and pepper. Aroma smooth and sweet with pumpkin fruit nd lemon, has an orange coat and orange-white head. A must-try for slightly sweet tastes.

Nice fall flavored beer. Has all the right spices, but, not overly pumpkin flavored. But incredibly smooth as far as strong beers go. You'd never know it was 8% sipping on it at your thanksgiving dinner.

This pumpkin ale poured a cloudy deep amber colour with a minimal off white head. Scents include pumpkin, allspice and bananas. First sip was quite carbonated but a little watery but still good. Flavours of pumpkin and allspice most predominant. Finish is pumpkin pie with a light hop addition.

Great pumpkin ale. Beautiful amber colour with a sweet aroma. The taste is complex with the variety of spices. The only thing that it lacks is a good head, but that may have been from my pour or from the lack of hops.

Very spice-forward pumpkin ale that has a nice flavor and hides its ABV to boot. Only minus is the mouthfeel seems a little thin. B.

I have sampled this big west cost pumpkin beer on a few occasions and itís wonderful to see it available in the Ontario market. A hazy dark orange-amber high gravity (8%abv) pumpkin ale brewed with amber malt, fresh roasted pumpkin, west coast hops, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise. Rich and spicy, it dries in the finish - a superior well-crafted big pumpkin ale. Comes in a 1 liter capped swing top bottle so you can finish it in 2 sittings. This beer is produced in very limited quantities each fall so if you see it on LCBO shelves snag it, it cellars fairly well.

Normally, I have not liked pumpkin ales very much - ironic, considering I love darker ales and that the Fall is my favorite season.
Pumpkineater is literally like drinking pumpkin pie. Appearance is a rusty reddish-brown, not much head. The aroma is fresh pumpkin pie, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon. Flavor is rich pumpkin pie, with a malty bitterness reminiscent of the Germanic pilseners. Not overly carbonated, nice and smooth. A wonderful choice for having by the fire on a cold autumn day.

Bottle to pint glass
Strong pumpkin and spice aroma, with apple and a bit of smoke. Deep reddish amber with a creamy head and lacing. The taste is prevalently pumpkin with some clove and nutmeg.
