UPDATED: FEB 20, 2015 1 L. swingtop. Lightly hazy orange-copper body supports a lasting thin disc of creamy foam. Nose is dark fruit bubblegum, sassafras-spiced hard candy and an occasional bit of squash. Tastes of bubblegum, toffee, earthy spice mix, toasted nut and some nice notes of vegetal pumpkin. A bit of wooden hop, roast and the spices provide a dry, mildly astringent finish. Medium body has medium carbonation and shows just a pleasant warming from the 8%. Great spice mix that provides lots of complex flavors, doesn’t have any one spice dominating the flavor and on the whole doesn’t completely overwhelm the pumpkin or the yeast. Would be really great if there was just a pinch less of the spices though.

I saw this in the holiday section at BevMo and couldn’t believe the size of the bottle. My friend and I were joking about it and then when we looked it up on Rate Beer, we had to try it. This is the most enjoyable holiday craft brew I’ve had by a long shot. It has a lot of the fall seasonal flavors like cinnamon and nutmeg along with caramel in it. At the same time it runs very smooth and pours out orange :) It’s something definitely worth trying if you haven’t had it before. It’s not very bitter or anything but it settles quite well. It doesn’t taste like it’s 8% either :)

Your basic pumpkin beer, but a bit more assertive and alcoholic. The assertiveness comes though in the spicyness, accentuated by added hops.

Pours clear medium amber with two fingers of fluffy off-white head diminishing gradually to a thick cap, moderate lacing. (3/5) Nose is pureed peaches and squash, caramel malt, pumpkin pie spices. (5/10) Taste is sweet tending to cloying, mild bitter. (5/10) Medium body, low carbonation, mild bitter finish. (3/5)
Hey, it’s Halloween! If I can’t have a pumpkin beer now, when can I? Well... Never, maybe? A bit disappointing, to be honest. I read the reviews before buying this, and thought it might be one of the (very) few pumpkin ales that bucked the trend. But this isn’t even close to being the best pumpkin beer I’ve had, and pumpkin beers aren’t even close to the best beers in general, so... Yeah. (10/20)

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours clear orange, thin off-white head, doesn’t last, lacing is spotty. Nose is pumpkin pie spices, crystal malt, light non-specific fruitiness, standard clean yeast, some pumpkin here, but if there wasn’t a giant Jack-o-Lantern on the label, I’d be hard pressed to pick it out.

I didn’t even want to like this thing so much. In the past I have had some fairly awful at worst and lackluster at best Pumpkin Ale experiences. As I am a sucker for all things pumpkin though, I keep going back in hope of finding a decent festive brew. From the smooth notes of clove, cinnamon, anise, nutmeg, brown sugar, caramel and of course pumpkin to the beautiful red-orange glow with the lofty cream head, this liquid pie does it right. The taste is sweet but not saccharine and is thoroughly pumpkininny. A smooth and low carbonated body with a small hint of oiliness, this gourd guzzle hides it’s booze bomb well but warms this fella on a crisp autumn day. Huzzah!

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Quite a tasty pumpkin brew for how strong it is. Pours an unfiltered amber colour with a big head. Aroma is of pumpkin pie, and all the spices that go into it and even some ginger. Tastes about the same which is fine by me. Had low carbonation and is smooth, I was kind of hoping for a heavier body though.
