3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 killjoy966 (676) - Washington, USA - FEB 4, 2011
Pop top from Chuck’s. Picked this one up after the Howe Sound tasting at Chuck’s. Best one I tried there despite the three imperial ales presented. Smells like roasted nuts tastes faintly of caramel. Nothing too overpowering and completely session-able beer. They also have cool bottles which scores some points as well.

1 L. bottle bought from B.C. liquor store. Pours a reddish brown with a moderate head that fades fairly quickly. Caramel and nut aromas with hints of roasted malts, although not overdone. This beer has a moderate body with low carbonation. Chocolate and roast aftertaste. A good and well-balanced beer.

1L bottle. Pours a medium-dark amber with a lasting tan head. Aroma of malt, some earthiness. Tastes very malty; notes of caramel, molasses, some chocolate... nut tones. Earthy sweet bitterness. Finishes with a grassy nut earthiness. One of the best brown ales I have ever tasted.

Dark brown, translucent, and slightly cloudy. Small persistent head, a bit more than a ring. Slight chocolate aroma and taste. Hop flavour is mild and slightly vegetal. Mouth feel is bang on, both smooth and slightly lively as well.

I find this a very consistent, credible, interesting beer for its’ price. It’s got some hop and yeast character added to the typical caramel-toasty brown. I would buy this again.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 Scubaguy (230) - Alberta, CANADA - AUG 7, 2010
The flavour has a good amount of chocolate. There are some nut and licorice notes. Even some coffee in there nearing the finish. It’s not the typical flavour you think of when drinking a brown ale. As well it does have a bit of a thin feel too it.
The aroma has good solid chocolate notes and some black licorice.
Pours a dark brown color with a tan head with some very spotty lacing
I am getting some earthy hops on the finish and it tends to linger on the palate. This is the first beer I have tried from Howe sound. I will most defiantly be trying the rest of there offerings.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sask89 (326) - Regina, Saskatchewan, CANADA - JUL 15, 2010
UPDATED: JUL 18, 2010 Pours a dark brown colour, almost black with a small off-white head. Aroma is of roasted malts, toast, cereal and grains. Taste is malty throughout with bread, toast and nuts most present, nice dry finish, mildly bitter. Medium-full body, on the palate mostly smooth and thick with soft carbonation. Very nice brown ale, pretty good beer.
