3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy red, mixed with copper visual. Heavy, cloud like head with thick lacing. Carborated like a vw beetle, moderately. Malt forward nose, noticed Howes said cascade hop bouqet faintly when pouring, but not so obvious once in the glass. Certainly a sweet first touch, however it seems to have a slight bitter finsh which is nice. Not my favorite style, but becomes more enjoyable with each drink. American strong ale for sure. Butter cream palate. Very decent for such a strong brew. Worth a squirt.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap at St Augustine’s in Vancouver. A dark but relatively uninteresting imperial ale. Too much malt and too little hops for my taste. Easy drinking although.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
September 20, 2011 - bottle sample at Volo. Slightly hazy but brightly refractive ruby with a solid creamy beige head. Smells malty, fruity - a little leathery and vinous - hardly any alcohol - nice and floral. Taste has dry leafy bitterness to it, maybe a bit herbal, but very malty indeed - some alcohol - "red" .... slick, sticky, moderately carbonated, a bit dry and leafy in the aftertaste, the finish is mostly floral not-too-sweet maltiness.

[3966-20110920] 1L bottle. Light fruity malt grains aroma. Clear, bright dark red body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. More fruity grains in the flavour has a lingering toasted boozy aftertaste. Medium-full body. Tasty, drinkable, struggling to manage a balance between taste and alcohol. (6/3+/7/3/14) 3.3+
