3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Medium amber orange pour with a surging, thick off-white head, lots of lacing. Caramelly, sweet nose on this with some citrusy hoppy notes. Moderately sweet body with a sharp resinous finish cut into by a lot of booziness. Not a lot of the aromatics I associate with IPAs here, some earthy herbal qualities but mostly booze and one dimensional bitter. Not as good as other Howe Sound beers I’ve had, but at least I got a cool swing top bottle out of it.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
8oz sample at the Taphouse Grill. Pours a reddish orange with an off-white head. Aroma has caramel, floral hops and something metallic. Taste is of sweet caramel, resin and some woodiness. Finishes sweet and not very smooth. The metallic nose is a bit off-putting. That is what I get having a bartender who looks like Russell Crowe talk me into a brew.

UPDATED: APR 20, 2012 Eclipse of the Hop?!? Au contraire, this bad boy is nothing but hop... six varieties, no less. Zesty, herbal, grassy, piney, floral and citrusy, lots of overlapping sensations in this one... though if a Lagerboy such as I can put away a whole litre, it’s probally an IPA Light for all you hardcore hopheads, eh? 3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a hazy dark orangish amber with a nice frothy off white head and lots of lace. Aroma of grapefruit, tropical fruit, citrus oranges and nice sweet malts in the background. Taste is a good balance of hops and malts, caramel, grapefruit, mango and a slick bitterness throughout not too much and borders harsh but not quite. Pleasant double ipa.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sampled at Howe Sound. Hazy amber with a thin beige head. Very weak peach aroma. Surprisingly light taste, some booze, not much malt or citrus, high IBUs. Medium-full body. Very unexciting Imperial IPA.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Notes: cloudy rusty amber with a reasonable pale head that leaves behind a slight lacing. Aroma is northwest hops, fresh cut grass, touch of pine and a hint of caramel, good overall floral note. Good body, reasonable balance between malt and hoppy bitterness - the hops are not an overwhelming sock in the mouth with pine and spruce, whilst still being noticeable and finishing with a crisp bitterness. Taste is quince, grapefruit, caramel, malt and pine. One of the best IIPA’s I have tried.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
1 Liter Swingtop Bottle. Appearance is a cloudy burnt orange and gold color along with an inch of solid beige head. Lots of brown sugar, candied orange peel and herbal hops notes in the aroma with a bit of pine resin at the end. The taste starts out with a good deal of earthy hops bitterness and grapefruit citrus flavors that lead to a sweet, bready caramel malt middle. Toward the end there’s some toffee, pine and alcohol. The body is slick and creamy with moderate carbonation and more caramel sweetness and grapefruit rind in the finish. A little more malt-forward than most DIPAs but with enough citrus and piney bitterness to keep it relatively balanced.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a glowing hazy orange with a nice white head. The aroma is malty and hoppy. Citrus, caramel, honey, pine, grass, and herbs. The flavor is somewhat malt forward with a decent kick of hops. Caramel, grapefruit, orange peel, grass, pine, honey, spice, and a nice bitter finish. Not a bad IIPA, just a little too malty forward for me.
