Pours a cloudy dark copper-light brown with a small white ring of head and great legs. Aroma is rich maltiness, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, and dark dried fruit(mostly prunes and raisins). Flavour is toffee, prunes, rasins, caramel, brown sugar, mild alcohol and a touch of molasses. Really tasty brew, got one more for the cellar.

Bottle from tom10101, thanks! Pours a deep garnet and is topped by a tenacious white rim that doesn’t leave much lacing. Nose is of strong alcohol, brown sugar and slightly hoppy. Taste is lightly sweet and pretty bitter, not too flavorful. Hot alcohol, toffee, caramel and that is about it. Alcohol feels peppery and continues into the finish. It feels like 13-14% for sure. Body is medium, carbonation as well and alcohol burns continuously. Overall this a pretty intense but simple barleywine, I had much higher expectations!

2014-07-23. Hazy dark brown body moderate head. Aroma is malt forward, sweet dark malt, dry toasty notes. Flavour is malty and lightly tangy, sweet malt core with mild alcohol in the finish. Sort of bitter in the aftertaste. Average plus bodied palate, moderate carbonation. Decent, more simplistic than expected. Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto

Powerfully rich nose with caramel, roasted malt and rich dark berries. The current version is a much bigger, American style barleywine than the original more European version a few years ago. This version is rich with dark, heavy flavours. The caramel malts are heavily roasted and sweet. Hops balance the rich, thick and full body. One of the best barleywines I have ever tasted.

Caramel, prune, raisin and pecans. Cloudy golden orange with a thin white head. Toffee, prunes and plum with a light bitterness that finishes light and sweet. Not as well rounded as aged bottles, but still nice.

Pours auburn, frothy head. Aroma is sugary, malty. Taste is sweet, tart, hoppy, deep, earthy. It's a bit if everything in one and it works really well. Tasty, and 10%! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A dark drink. Thin layer of foam. Oooohh, hops, dark fruit malt, alcohol, sugary edge, spices. Aroma almost as good as the flavour. Thickens nicely as it warms. A royal treat.

May 14, 2014. Bottle from LCBO. Deep chocolate brown, cloudy. Off-white head. Raisins and toffee in aroma. Big fluffy head. Lovely aroma. Sweet raisins and toffee flavours. Bit of a bite in the aftertaste. This is more mellow than I recall it being when I drank a bottle 6 months ago. This bottle was aged for about 6 months.

I have looked for this brew for over 3 years and to finally try it was incredible. The pour is a dark, muddy burgundy with a thick finger of beige head. The nose is heavily malted and rich with big toffee and caramel malts, light candied sugar and prune notes fill the void of hops both in the mid palate and the nose. The finish has a wealth of rich malty toffee notes that end in a warmth of boozy treacle notes on the finish. Overall, what a brew.

Dark brown pour, nice bit of creamy tan head. Aroma, dark fruit, caramel, brown sugar, very nice. Taste, lively carbonation, very rich, sweet caramel, followed by some mild hops, very little hint of the ABV, strange aftertaste...some herbal or something? Overall really nice aroma, nice flavour all around, but doesn’t quite nail it as a full rich barley wine, nicely done overall though.
