Bottle, 2013 vintage (silk-screened label, different from the picture here). Deep red-orange colour, with an off-white finger-thick head. Aroma is sweet fruity caramel with hints of spice and booze. Sweet flavours of fruity caramel, a tad syrupy, pitted fruits lead into a very dry finish with moderate bitterness. Pithy chokecherries come to mind. Warming alcohol at the back. Nice.

Bought from the LCBO. Got some fruity aroma going on. Alcohol is high but not noticeable when drinking.

375ml bottle pours a deep amber color with quite a generous head (about a finger and a half) for a the style, leaving some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is grains with some grapefruit and herbs. Taste is a grapefruit and herbal bitterness with a bold malty sweetness. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Definitely, fits the style and is quite tasty and recommended.

[Bottle (375ml)] Pours a murky dark orange-copper with an average size lasting frothy tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, caramel malt, brown sugar, a good amount of hops and alcohol. Nice fruity and hoppy flavour, sweet and malty, along with alcohol, toffee and a long-ish moderate bitter finish. Medium to full bodied. Pretty good.

375ml Christmas gift bottle from my wife. Hazy deep red-amber, really attractive lasting foamy solid sized head. Yep, sweetish thickly malty strong BW - floral, somewhat herbal - more English than American, but solid. Taste - yep, follows, a bit boozy but not bad for 10.5%, a little building bitterness, but mostly malt and alcohol. Thick, chewy, mildly carbonated, surprisingly quick finish; solid, if a tad sweet.

Bottle from LCBO. Pours clear brown with a tan head. Aroma of butter, caramel, bourbon, vanilla, and raisins. Buttery taste, with grapes and raisins, caramel, and a nice bitter and boozy burn in the finish. Fully body.

375ml bottle. Slightly haze copper body, big orange head with excellent retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, malt, dates, peach jam, camp flowers. Taste is very sweet and malty, tons of caramel, good amount of bitter hops, slightly leathery. Oily.

I have only had a couple barely wines before. So I don’t got much to compare with the style. But its not as sweet as I thought it might be, which is a good thing. As a beer in general I think its a delicious beer!!

375 ml bottle from the lcbo. Pour deep amber with a thick mousy tan head. Looks perfect. Very malt forward nose, caramel and dark malt with some fruitiness. The flavours are again malt forward but there is ample hopping to round everything out. Pretty good beer overall, just lacks the complexity and depth of really good barley wines. If this was in a six pack for less then $15 I’d buy it regularly but at $5.55 a bottle it’s a one and done for me.

Boutip (4656) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 8, 2014
Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy copper color ale with a rather large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of dry caramelized sugars with light grainy cereal notes. Taste is dominated by load of dry caramelized residual sugars notes with some grainy cereal notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting take on the English-style barleywine but sadly feels a bit short on the complexity front.
