Dec 2012 bottle taster. Clear dark amber with no cap. Aroma of plants, raisin. Taste has a bit of a tang followed with some bitterness. Good dryness.

Bottle... Clear copper ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. The bouquet is an odd mélange of meat stock, medium-dry sherry and toffee. Medium-bodied with airy carbonation. The flavor presents caramel, modest bitterness and light acidity. Finishes tongue-numbing and winds up a bit dry. Bottle generously shared by newcigarz!

2012 Pours deep red, no head Smell big rich fruity caramel, toffee, pudding sticky. Taste proper English Barleywine, light hop, lots of sticky sweetness, bit spice, caramel and a tiny bit of alcohol on the end. Mid to full bodied. Very good.

On tap at Alibi Room in Vancouver. I’ve always been partial to barleywines and this is a good one. A dark amber color with a bit of beige head. Fruity, malty and vinous notes combine to make a very seductive brew. 4

2012 December, 341ml bottle. Deep ruby red with little head and no retention. Light sweet aromas of toffee and dark fruits. Toffee, dark fruits, light tobacco with an earthy slight dry finish. Very smooth, malty and chewy with a very slight booziness. 11%! Where? Mmmm!

2012 Bottle - A tad better than I expected. Chewy and malty with plenty of caramel sweetness. Full bodied and a little boozy.

Garnet color small head. Aroma is muted but fruity. Flavor is also fairly fruity but lacks the malty backbone I expect. Quite thin.

Bottle, 2012 vintage thanks to 5000. Shimmering amber pour with ruby tones, small beige head. The malt bill swirls through the air, with caramel and chocolate malts being the dominant force. Light citrus and floral notes too. Deep flavor profile is chocolate, caramel, citrus, and toffee. Lightly cloying. Wonderful body... silky smooth, but has a good weight to it. Very fine stuff.

2012 bottle. Rich and tasty with big notes of brown sugar, multi-grain bread, toffee and toast. Warming in the throat. Hops are pleasant with a subtle bitterness. Slight metallic-like off-flavors, possibly from the cap. Nonetheless, it’s a pretty solid barleywine.

Bottle:   Deep amber, moderate frothy tannish head, spotty lacing.   Semi-sweet whole wheat bready aroma.   Not all that hoppy, citrusy, or floral.   Interested in seeing what this one holds for me.   Moderately sweet on the tongue, bready, whole wheat, faint citrus and pith on the backside.   I would say caramel malt, but its so minor that I would say... HOLY PISS, did you see that tiger in the tree?   Nobody else did, so who the f*ck would believe me about this beer.   Sorry, was watching Grandmas Boy just now.   A little green, but not overly immature.   Not as malty or full bodied as I would have hoped.   Has a slight powdery or candyish sweetness to it.   Middle of the road kind of Barley Wine.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Moderate whole wheat bready maltiness on the finish, faint citrus, faint sweetness, and thats about it.   Really needs to be chewier.   Not terribly green, thankfully, but its not not all that thick or hefty.   Too easy to drink, or perhaps I should say almost too thin.   For a 11% ABV Barley Wine, it is not caustic or anything.   Easy to drink fer sure.   Needs a touch more caramel sweetness to really round it out.   Otherwise its good, but not anything to write home about.   I suppose Canadia will love to keep this for themselves?   I dunno... I am busy listening to Rush right now... perhaps they would approve of this Canadian beverage?
