375 ml bottle from LCBO (very classy), served cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Very deep mahogany with a decent tan head. Aroma: Richly malty with plenty of brown sugar, treacle and dark dried fruits, caramel and dark bread crust, quite sweet-smelling, a slight resinous note, a bit of chocolate, a slightly savoury note. Palate: Medium-full body with gentle carbonation. Flav.: Quite rich and malty again, darker than the nose, more brown sugar veering towards molasses, burnt toast, more resinous, dark dried fruits, blood orange?, very big; sweet with good bitterness and a long, richly malty and resinous finish.

Quite nice.

Slightly hazy amber brown colour, white head. Malty aroma, alcohol, caramel, dark fruits. Sweet malty flavour, caramel. Malty, light bitter finish with some pronounced liquorice.

Bottle (341 ml). 2011 vintage. From Simon, thanks! Slightly hazy copper with a small beige head and little to no lacing. Aroma of brown sugar, caramel, fruits, light oxidation notes and light spices. Taste is moderately sweet with caramel, brown sugar, fruits, light spices, light port-like notes and light tobacco. Alcohol is well hidden. Medium body. Low to moderate carbonation. Good balance. Fairly complex. Exactly what Iím looking for in a Barley Wine.

Bottle, 2012 vintage thanks to 5000. Shimmering amber pour with ruby tones, small beige head. The malt bill swirls through the air, with caramel and chocolate malts being the dominant force. Light citrus and floral notes too. Deep flavor profile is chocolate, caramel, citrus, and toffee. Lightly cloying. Wonderful body... silky smooth, but has a good weight to it. Very fine stuff.

375 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a clear darkish amber colour with modest-sized off-white head. Aroma is rich, sweet dark fruit, sugar and caramel. Flavour is fairly sweet with caramel, dark dried fruits and sugar with a modestly boozy finish. Big body. Solid but not spectacular.

2013 edition at the LCBO with 10.5% ABV. Pours a clean copper colour with a great beige head, thick and creamy, great retention and loads of sticky lace. Oh wow... this is quite smooth. No burning and a nice slick mouthfeel. Aromas of dark fruit, very malty but with some decent hops. Dark fruit flavours with a toffee base and the hop a little stronger in the finish, creating a beautiful grassy bitterness. Quite a delicious barleywine that I would buy more.

375 ml bottle from the lcbo. Pour deep amber with a thick mousy tan head. Looks perfect. Very malt forward nose, caramel and dark malt with some fruitiness. The flavours are again malt forward but there is ample hopping to round everything out. Pretty good beer overall, just lacks the complexity and depth of really good barley wines. If this was in a six pack for less then $15 Iíd buy it regularly but at $5.55 a bottle itís a one and done for me.
