Bottle 18,7 cl. Courtesy of fiulijn. Bottle # 579/1100. Pours a clear, nutty brown with an off-white head. Nutty aroma, overripe fruit and booze. Solid body, lots of overripe fruit, molasses and nuts. Heavy alcohol in the finish, but smooth, warming and pleasant. 180611

Paid $5 from cold beer and wine. Off the pour this beer heads up almost like caramel mixed in with the tan foam. It has a nice murky red coloring to it. It has a very mild aroma to it with a touch of very ripe, or cooked banana. Not boozy just very smooth. The flavor is lightly sweet with present hops, but not overpowering at all. The taste overall is very very mild. It has a medium thick body that clears the palate fairly quickly and is rather flat as it should be. Overall this barley wine is very smooth, and very mild in every sense, but enjoyable and a good value.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2013 Very attractive (and refractive) deep amber brown color with off-white head that really lasts. Nose of figs, persimmons, caramel, toffee, gingerbread, and allspice. Taste is all of the above plus plum, raisin, baker’s chocolate, and cedar shavings. Very nicely integrated hops and alcohol create a very warming and pleasing orchestra of flavor that just hits the spot.

34.1cl bottle courtesy of pjdipes. It pours with an amber body supporting a nice tight tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sweet malts that are a bit musty as well as some sweet hazel nut notes and then faint molasses and dark fruity ester aromatics. The taste is similar with thick malts, sweet hazel nuttiness and molasses. Behind those notes I get thin layers of sweet dark fruity esters and a pleasing earthiness. Cool stuff.

On tap at Alibi Room in Vancouver. I’ve always been partial to barleywines and this is a good one. A dark amber color with a bit of beige head. Fruity, malty and vinous notes combine to make a very seductive brew. 4

Smells nice, biscuity malts predominate. A caramely sweetness as well. Dark mahogany color but not very hazy, long lasting off-white head. Very nice looking beer. Decent flavors on this one, again upfront some of the biscuity malt comes through, develops some wine-like characteristics and a caramel sweetness. Alcohol well hidden, just noticable on an exhale. Hops build bitterness throughout as well. Syrupy consistency, average carbonation. Quite a decent barleywine.

My continuing education in barley wine continues with this coca-cola-like pour. A slight skin of foam floats atop. Taste is a rich combination of caramel, French Canadian sugar pie, burnt brown sugar, dates & citrus. Alcohol is not on full stealth here, as is evident in the enjoyable slow burn of the after taste. Other barley wines ive sampled have back fired with a hyper Sweetness. This bugger doesn’t fall into that trap. I’m a big fan of this.

I have looked for this brew for over 3 years and to finally try it was incredible. The pour is a dark, muddy burgundy with a thick finger of beige head. The nose is heavily malted and rich with big toffee and caramel malts, light candied sugar and prune notes fill the void of hops both in the mid palate and the nose. The finish has a wealth of rich malty toffee notes that end in a warmth of boozy treacle notes on the finish. Overall, what a brew.
