Toffee and caramel combine with a pleasing nutty character in the nose. some dark pit fruits and light alcohol are also apparent. clear mahogany-brown body is topped by a decent off-white head that stands well and leaves some lace. the sweetness of the toffee and caramel are offset by some pleasant roast malt notes and the nuttiness lingers in the aftertaste. Perhaps not as full bodied as I’d expect considering the sweetness and stronger carbonation might have elevated the flavour a bit. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased (?) at Toby’s in (?) December 2012.

Bottle from the LCBO. 2013 vintage, purchased in March 2014, enjoyed on Dec 22 2014. Lovely ruby-brown colour with a slight haziness and a wisp of head that disappears quickly. Aroma of port, raisins and prunes, barley candy, woody hops. Medium-full body with light carbonation. Flavour shows some slight oxidization, but it works well with the upfront fruit and caramel notes. The finish seems muted at first, but as it warms, some surprising hop bitterness starts to build, more pronounced that expected from a beer of this age. Orange peel, tart cherry and licorice meld and linger on the palate. A fantastic winter warmer - even on an unseasonably mild winter evening like this one.

The beer pours a semi-translucent reddish-brown colour with a thin tan coloured head. The aroma is dark fruit, caramel, and roasted malt. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is sweet fruity tones, hints of caramel, and licorice.

Tasted at Willow Park Beer Bash 2014. Unfortunately, there was no time for detailed notes - and I only made it through half my list even so!

Sampled from the 2013 batch in a 37.5cl bottle at 10.5% ABV purchased in a bottle shop in Gastown, Vancouver. A hazy copper-brown colour with a beige-white head. Enticing aromas of toffee, prunes and raisins. The taste is extremely , sweet and powerful, with intense flavours of toffee, plums, blackberries, coffee, vanilla and dark chocolate all present. Very pleasant fruity long finish. A really good barley wine.

Poured from a cask at a pub. Very beautiful dark bodied beer with a good amount of head. Very delicious! Coats the pallete and leaves a long lasting taste. Good taste of caramel and has a full body.
