Cask at The Cock Tavern, as part of RBESG ’14 on 9 Aug. Poured a clear bright amber, with a thin white head. Aroma of aniseed, chewy caramel and toasted malt. Candy sugar and sweets on the tongue, followed by steadily increasing hoppy bitterness. Finish was super bitter, dry and resinous.

Draught @ Cock Tavern, 315 Mare Street, Hackney, Greater London, England E8 1EJ.

Hazy matt medium amber yellow colour with a average, frothy - creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate to light heavy hoppy, grass, grapefruity, licorice hops. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light heavy bitter with a long duration, dry, grapefruit bitter, very hoppy almost harsh. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20121206]

Keg @ The Cock Tavern. The pour’s medium amber red with a creamy off-white head. The nose is bright tangerine and bruised peach. Caramelized orange peel. Notes of toast and grain. The taste is light sprucy, resinous hops. Mild melon fruit punch sweetness. This is supported by a wonderfully deft, toasted malt body. Nice, chewy malt flavors. Just a hint of caramel and brown bread. Medium body, smooth and very enjoyable. Overall, a cracker of an amber ale. Nicely balanced, inviting.

Keg at the Cock Tavern, London. Pours cloudy, light gold with a fine, creamy head. Big pine hop nose. Medium sweet flavor with lots more piney bitterness, light toasted malts, toasty grass. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately resinous to finish, sticky, with more pine and dirty grass, some bready malts. Nice beer.
