3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 JorgeLee (718) - Greater London, - JAN 25, 2013Cask at the Cock Tavern E8. Reddish brown in colour. I’m a big fan of these hoppy red ales, and Howling Hops have smashed it with their versions. Luscious juicy fruit from the hops, berries with a hint of sweetness, cream, a bit of snap, long bitter finish. Splendid.

Cask at the Southampton Arms on 5th February 2013. Reddish amber with thin loose foam. Strongly spicy, smoky and earthy aroma. Fruitiness, smoke, firewood and citric hops in-mouth. Tangy finish with sweet smoke and earthiness that becomes increasingly dry. Medium body and carbonation.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 jackl (2587) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 22, 2013
Cask @ The Cock Tavern. The pour’s deep red with a small, bubbly head. The aroma’s toasted brown bread, some caramel and red berry fruits. Rich, malty aroma. The taste is much the same. Lightly sprucy hops break up the bready, sweet malt flavors. Slightly toasty finish. Medium body, very soft on the palate. Not particularly exciting or engaging. Overall, stick to Howling Hops’ pale, hoppy beers!

Cask conditioned at The Cock Tavern, Hackney, London. Ruby to amber with off white head. Quite a flowery flavour initially, perfumed with a sharp tanginess. Hops show through this giving a pleasant dry finish. A beer of two halves as they might say.
