Cask at the Cock Tavern E8. Reddish brown in colour. I’m a big fan of these hoppy red ales, and Howling Hops have smashed it with their versions. Luscious juicy fruit from the hops, berries with a hint of sweetness, cream, a bit of snap, long bitter finish. Splendid.

On cask @ Cock Tavern, London - UK. Color: clear amber beer with no carbonation and small white foam. Smell: malt and caramel. Balanced with bitterness and grassy hops. Taste: medium body with good caramel malt and balanced with hops and bitterness. Not so fruity but sweet and bitter. Really drinkable. Aftertaste: wet bitterness and grassy.

Bottle. Hazy amber body with a medium off-white head. Lively carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of honey, red apple and orange peel. Flavour of blood orange, grapefruit, caramel and juicy hops. Medium body with an oily texture. Very fizzy. Too much carbonation but this is a raw, hoppy Red IPA.

Bottle. Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. 5.2%. Hazy red. Big, bubbly, sticky, off white, lasting head. Lovely sticky hop to this. Jammy, and fruity. Smells very fresh and lively. Bit of a light, oily herb thing going on. Taste sets off juicy bitter, with a fruity sweetness building and lingering. Smooth mouthfeel, although there’s plenty of fizz, which could be a good thing, given that sweetness. Finishes fruity, soft bitter. Touch dry on the close.
