COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark Matter: Deep, Deceptively Dark, Delicious! Is it a Stout? Is it a Brown? Is it a Porter? Dark Matter is elusive, soft on the tongue with hints of subtle roasted chocolate. Sometimes you need to go somewhere dark in order to see.

650ml bottle pours a deep amber color with a small white head that leaves very little lacing. Aroma is mild chocolate and roasted barley. Taste is light chocolate malt sweetness with some roasted bitterness with mild hops. Light to medium body with mild carbonation. An easy drinking dark ale that is hard to classify. It is certainly unique and somewhat tasty.

Has a little coffee. Pours dark mahogany with good head and lacing. Smell has some burnt toast. If this is supposed to be a porter, then it’s really not performing. Seems more like a dunkel or something. On tap at brewery.

Bottle - Chocolate, chili peppers, roasted something... Deep amber with an off white head. Nice chocolate again tasting the chili and a weird roasted flavor, almost savory but finishes sweet. Rich body and a decent aftertaste. So very odd and different. I may have this again in a group to discuss, but more as a dissection than enjoyment.

A shockingly weird beer... the label does this stuff justice. Smells like this stuff has been roasted in hell. I’ve never smelt something like this yet with beer. Coffee taste (I have a problem with caffeine... never touch the stuff... but Dark Matter’s a good alternative). I wonder why the rating for this aren’t that great yet... give it time.

Pours dark brown with thin head and low carbonation. Over-roasted malt and watery palate. Finish is sweet with roastiness. Not something to seek out.

Bottle. Chestnut colour, low offwhite lace. Roasted grain, light coffee and dark sugar, ok grassy counterpoint. Medium to light body, slightly tinny on the palate. sparkly. Mellow roasted finish.

On tap at the Alibi Room pours a dark amber brown with a small beige head. Feint aroma of dry cocoa powder and very light roast. Flavour of stale roasted malt and not much else. The opposite of complex - very watery and weak. Dull and lifeless - not good.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver
Dark brown color. Mild aroma of roasted malt, dust. Dry mouthfeel, some roasted malts, light chocolate presence, correct bitterness.
A bit too dry and roasty.

On tap at The Alibi Room in Gastown. Lots of head, and a very dark ruby when held to the light. The malts are, of course, very evident here, and very well roasted. As a porter, the malts have a flavor profile evocative of coffee and chocolate. A very decent porter.

650 ml bottle. Pours dark brown with reddish tint. Very light head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of roasted malt and bitter dark chocolate. Flavors of toast, very light dark chocolate notes, and malt. Light bitter finish. A mild porter.
