badbeer (419), Iowa, USA Dec 27, 2007 Hazy golden color with a soft white head; some head retention and bits of lacing. Nice aromas of banana, a light citrus zest, bread, and a touch of clove. Nice bready flavor with a faint bit of citrus and clove as well as a smooth banana bread finish. Carbonation is right around medium levels with a medium body. Very good beer. I’m glad to have a true to style Hefeweizen available so close. Erdinger2003 (127), Ames, Iowa, USA Dec 28, 2007 Poured into Franziskaner glass. Pours a 1/4 inch head with a hazy brown to gold color. Smell has a lot of banana with some sweet malts and a touch of clove. Taste is malty sweet. heemer77 (3827), Savannah, Missouri, USA Apr 3, 2008 Medium gold amber body with a thin khaki head. The aroma is classic banana and clove. Plenty of spice and earthy notes. The taste has fairly strong banana peels with some cloves in the finish. This is highly carbonated, and it’s a little off putting. However, this is a nice entry and a good example of the style. Cheers to Hub City. truebluehes (101), Waukon, Iowa, USA Feb 25, 2008 Bottle. Light cloudy with with little head. Aroma is of strong citrus and banana, fairly spicy. Flavor is of strong citrus and banana with a nice spice. A little malt and nicely carbonated. CanIHave4Beers (234), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Apr 14, 2008 SUPRISE!
In the sea of American made boring wheat beers I didn’t expect that a tiny new Iowa brewery to make such a nice tasting hefe. This is very refreshing and has some very good traditional hefe flavors bananna & clove of course, but there is some light citrus and a little funk, but it is in no way too sweet at all. Nice to see more good beer coming from my state!
