Rated from two 12oz bottles at the Moerlein Lager House. Clear golden color. Minimal white head, that fades to nothing. Moderate, but smooth carbonation. Decent aroma for a lager - slightly darker tasting bready aroma. Basic, but solid. Light sweet taste. Gotta say, it’s an alright lager.

Can. Looks and smells cheap. Tastes like cheap nothingness with a watery mouthfeel. Tick tock.

12oz can - Pours like a pale lager. Smells yeasty and lightly hoppy. Aroma is yeasty and a little malty (caramel), Reminds me a little of a Saison. Taste is mainly bitter but not too much.

Can (brewed by Latrobe PA). Sweet sour barley malt aroma. Golden yellow with a nice head. Sweet corn/barley malt with a hint of hops. Used to love this in the 80s when I could go to Ohio and buy beer when I was 19 - granted that any beer tastes good when you’re young , inexperienced and desperate but this doesn’t seem like the same recipe that I remember.

Can: pours. A clear crisp gold color with aromas of sweet corn. It’s flavors are nice and crisp, with a sweetness going on as well. It’s a nice summer lager, as most people have said, not as good as Hudy Delight.

Purchased at Glenway Crossing Remke/Biggs - Aw, what can I say? This is just another everyday lawnmower beer, and is actually less tastey to me than it’s poorer pal Burger! Still, it’s good to have the old Cincinnati party brew around! Earlier Rating: 9/23/2009 Total Score: 2.8 From a twelve ounce can purchased at the Fergueson Road Krogers in Cincinnati, Ohio - Look, I’m old enough to have had the old Hudepohl 14-K... this new brew is different from it! Anyway, here’s my take on the new stuff.... It pours a bright yellow, highly effervescent brew with malty aroma and a fast-fading white head. Tastewise, it’s a bit of a disappointment, with only a whisper of hops to buck up the light, grainy flavor. Hey, from my tastebuds tell me that it’s not as good as it’s also-brewed-at-Melanie canned compatriot Burger, although Hudy 14-K is a bit more upfront with the grains. The new 14-K is alright, but nothing spectacular (and a bit unbalanced to boot!).

Bottle. Poured amber color with a large frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate sweet grainy aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations wher met and worth having once.
Earlier Rating: 3/7/2010 Total Score: 2.5 Can at Bockfest 2010 - Cincinnati. Poured clear pale color with an average frothy white head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Moderate grain aroma. Medium body with a smooth thin texture and soft carbonation. Light to medium sweet flavor with a light sweet finish of short duration. Simple, cheap and drinkable.

A simple beer made not for those of us who want a hop bomb or malty pint. Nothing offensive and slightly better than those offerings from the mainstream big boys. A bit crisp with a slightly corn/malt backbone. Decent for what it is.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Drjohnrock (288) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 4, 2010
12 ounce BOTTLE [emphasis added] from Hatttings Supermarket. This is contracted brewed for Christian Moerlein by Lion Brewery of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and is different--and better--than the canned version of this beer that is brewed for Moerlein by the City Brewery, which is why I’ve added it as a separate beer. Small white head that quickly dissapated, sweet aroma, sweet grainy taste that is smoother and has fewer off notes than the City Brewery version. A cut above the usual macro suspects but still not quite as good as the original 14-K, which your humble servant is old enough to remember. In any event, raters (especially from the Cincinnati area) who have had only the canned version should giev this beer another chance by trying it in a bottle.
