3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap. Deep dark brown-black beer with a creamy non-nitro head. Aroma of chocolate and faint coffee. Flavour is slightly sweet, toasted malt and chocolate feature prominently here. So far, so good. The sweetness fades towards the middle leaving behind a touch of chocolate and a faintly roasty finish. There is a touch of dark fruit buried amongst all of the other characteristics mentioned. Not really a stellar examply, but there are no flaws. Nicely done.

Draught at the brewpub
Dark brown color. Poor as the other beers here, just with some dark caramel flavor, dry mouthfeel, even an ipression of dirty water.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
From the bottle. Pours chocolate brown with a small beige head. Very sweet chocolate nose, dry and lightly roasty with a soft hop finish. Palate was watery, which suprised me, for a sweeter porter I thought it would be more creamy.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The best of the three I drank at the pub. Big creamy head. Very dark. Rich malt coffee aroma. Thick rich body, almost like a chocolate and coffee milkshake.

8/24/2007: Hugo’s Voodoo Porter is a very dark brown color (almost black) with a creamy dark beige/tan head. It has creamy chocolate with hints of roasted malt and coffee in the aroma and flavor. It has a medium to medium-full body yet some how feels watery on the palate. This is a pretty average porter overall.
Draught sample at Hugo’s Lounge in Victoria, BC, Canada. Rating #12 for this beer...

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tried this at the brewpub years ago and found it delightfully smooth, with robust malt character. I will re-rate upon my next trip to Victoria.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Wonderful dark & fruity aroma, pitch black with a thin creamy head and decent lace. Fruity (blueberry) flavour, sweet and dark with light hops and even lighter roasted malt. Thick enough body with a bit of creaminess. This was an unplanned tasting, and a pleasant surprise! A bit on the thin side, but ok.
