COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by the Humboldt Brewing Company until their acquisition by Firestone Walker)

Bottled 10.19.11. Pours dark orange with red highlights and a minimal tan head. Aromas of cocoa, sweet fruit, and grass. The flavor is sweet malt, roasty and mild cocoa, and a mild grassy/hay/herbal finish. Refreshing. Nice smooth beer. [943]

Poured a convex head. Promising nasal molasses but the body of the beer is off.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2012 Brown but almost all ruby redness, short head, mild spotty lacing.Nicely carbonated. Aroma is chocolate, malt, nut, some earthiness.Mostly a unique-nutty with carmel malt. Taste is mirrored with aroma with a unique taste, good malt taste Mild light sharp medium tangy crispness very mildly citrus.light carmel chocolate light nutty mellow sweetness and a milddrefined earthy herbal bittering. Alot of amber qualities but nutty sweet chocolate light roast.Sweet Carmel /brown sugar chocolate nutty roast overall. I like the mouthfeel its kinda smooth but crisp medium/light bodied and a nice overall flavor.Great for a medium-light bodied typebeer. Nice mellow sweet flavor and complexity. Good light sweet clean but lingering good flavorn finish. Most people could put a few of these down without bitching.

Pours a light brown with a 1/2 finger head. Aroma is just kinda blah. Taste follows. A bit of hop profile but very blah overall. No "hemp" to be had. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Serving: Bottle. Pours medium-thick body. Very dark brownish/amber hue with very little head. Smells extremely malty, almost like a Scotch Ale with a little residual hop aroma. Mouthfeel is chewy and smooth. Taste starts very sweet and malty with a little hop bitterness lingering at the end. Overall smooth finish and enjoyable beer. A little heavy for a session but definitely can drink 2 no problem. BIG disappointment is that I really don’t sense the Hemp anywhere. Kind of a misnomer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bottle from Armanetti’s. Pours a clear, ruby-brown colored body with a finger-width, frothy, light tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is sweet and nutty with dark fruits, caramel, grain and bread, and a touch of toasty cocoa. Flavor has sweet nuts, caramel, cocoa, and a light bread up front before some dark fruits, chewy grains, and earth comes in. Finishes dry with a light earthy bitterness and a touch of roast, but very well balanced with a solid malty sweetness consisting of nuts, a light bread, caramel, toast, and cocoa. Some dark fruits coming out before leaving a lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid brown ale. Easy drinking and well balanced throughout with a pleasant nutty, dark fruit, malt sweetness and solid hop balance as well as a touch of roast and toast. Very smooth and finishes nicely.
