COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by the Humboldt Brewing Company until their acquisition by Firestone Walker)

Draft pint at Bavarian Lodge. Dark brown draft with a thin head. Despite dark malts, I can still see through the glass. Clean brown ale malt smell with no telltale spices. Taste has some nuttiness of brown ale malts, maybe a tough of hazelnut. Some toastiness from the hemp, if those seeds are toasted. Plus an earthy hop spice. Not really roasted so much as grilled is the impression I have. A bit of phenol actually helps the taste out here. I can’t say what all the pieces are, just that it’s a wonderfully spicy complex brew. Some fruity ale esters to the bottom of the glass.

Pours a clear and deep amber color. Aroma is of sweeter malts, brown sugar, bark, dirt, and molasses. Flavor has chocolate malts, barley, cascade hops, and some earthiness all present. Leaves a dry malt nd cocoa finish.

Bottle. Dark brown pour with slight white head. Slight earthy grassy, "herbal" aroma. Flavor is mildly earthy and spice flavor with some heavy caramel and toasted malt influence.

Pours a nice bold cherryredish brown hue with a light head. Aroma sweet, very floral. Nice subtle cherry taste with a bite of bitterness. Not a great beer but pretty damn solid. The unique taste that the hemp gives make this beer worthwhile. Just too light for most beer lovers.

12oz bottle. Pours amberish brown with small tan head. Aromas of dark malts, caramel, and nuts. Flavor is malty with caramel, dark fruits, nuts, and fair amount of hop bitterness for brown ale. Found it to be an enjoyable brew.

Tap at the Natomas location. Pours brown with a creamy off-white head. Slight roast malt aroma. Med body/mild carb. It’s rather fruity with "brown" roasted malt, and there’s enough bitter to offset the sugar.

Musty, malty aroma of an American Brown Ale - maybe a bit light. Dark reddish copper color with a substantial beige head. Starts a bit sweet, followed by a leafy, dusty vegy taste. Don’t think there is any hop. All weed. Actually a bit ongoing sweet in the finish. Sort of coats the tongue. It is what it is.
