COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by the Humboldt Brewing Company until their acquisition by Firestone Walker)

On draft. The pour was red average brown color, mediocre initial head, weak lacing. The aroma was nuts, caramel, chocolate, some berries. The flavor followed, chocolate, faint roast, nuts, caramel, and dark berries, which perhaps was the hemp? Seemed to make me dead tired, maybe something else caused that? Mouthfeel was full to a little undercarbonated, with slight malty sticky aspects. Just another average brown ale, imo.

Tap. Poured a ruby color with a small-ish white head. Aroma is a tad fruity, malts, caramel, fruit. Flavor was malty, hoppy. This one was smooth, clean, and really good.

A: snifter. Pours a dark, rich brown slight ruby color with an off-white head that dissipates rather quickly. light lacing. S: earthy malt aroma, some slight nutty characteristics. T: Nutty, oily, and bitter taste with malt background. Finish is a little bit more mellow, but the flavors wears down after a while. M: Light to medium body and rather oily and smooth, with little carbonation. D: Not a bad beer, but a novelty item to say the least. The flavor tends to get old after a while.

Draft sample @ BBQ, Brews and Blues. Pours a clear brown color with a medium beige head. The aroma was mild; mainly light caramel malts, very slightly nutty, a hint of herbal hops. The flavor was pretty standard for a brown with a slight nuttiness and light herbal hops. Medium light bodied; nothing very special here.
