COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by the Humboldt Brewing Company until their acquisition by Firestone Walker)

clear cola brown with 3/4" of dense tan head. Aroma is plummy, like a toned down barleywine with a bit of roast. taste is the same with an odd mineral profile and nutty roast into the finish. Still very drinkable. $2.5/12oz

pours a semi-clear dark brown with a very thin light beige head, not much lacing. smell is of molasses, brown sugar, malt, a roastiness, and some spice. taste is a little flat, malt, some sour, caramel, brown sugar, nuts, spice, and pepper, ends somewhat dry.

12 oz bottle from Canal’s Hainesport. Poured a clear mahogany brown with ruby edges and a small to average sized foamy light beige head. Aroma of vegtables, nutts, brown toast, orange marmalade and a touch of chocolate. Full body with loads of creaminess and average carbonation. Falvors of chocolate, slight vegtabels and brown bread. Not bad but the IPA and red are more memorable.

Bottle. Ruby brown with beige head. Aromas of caramel, grass, roasted nuts, herbs, spice, and coffee. Flavors of toffee, coffee, grain, herbs, wood. Medium-thin body with soft carbonation and creamy mouthfeel. If any cannabis-like qualities detected, it would be in the aroma. Solid brown ale.

From bottle. This was a big disappointment. Worth a drain pour. Ale brewed with hemp, but pretty darn plain, and lacking character. Even my friend who drinks brown ales regularly couldn’t stomach this one and we had most of a six-pack left over. Yuck. Terrible.

a frothy slightly sweet brew that has no hint of hemp that i can discern. decent enough body fortified by good small potent carbonation. a boring brown that is otherwise watery in the finish. bit of gravymaster....ho hum. as highlander intimated a bit of band aid in there.

Interesting brew - this is possibly the first commercially released hemp ale I have tried. I didn’t smell that hemp smell, but I did detect a pleasant grain and hop concoction. In the flavor tho, a good hit of nutty hemp comes thru in what seems to be an amber ale. There is a little citrus and grain taste too. A nice release from Firestone Walker / Nectar Ales.

Poured from bottle. Aroma of nut and molasses. Dark mahogany, tan head. Flavors of dried fruit, unsweetened cocoa, root beer, and molasses. Bittersweet aftertaste. This got a weird medicine-y flavor toward the finish. Pretty good until the end.
