COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by the Humboldt Brewing Company until their acquisition by Firestone Walker)

Pours bright mahogany into a shaker. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to hug rim leaving spot lacing. Earthy chocolate aromas. Sweet dark caramel upfront turning very dry in the lasting chocolate finish.

Browns red brown with tan head. Slightly hoppy aroma, strong brown malt taste. Solidly sessionable.

Tap at ChurchKey. Into nonic pint, the pour is a cola ruby with a small, tan head. Small lacing. Aroma is sweet, roast, milk chocolate, muted character overall. Taste is cherry, roast, milk chocolate. A decent, light porter. A little heavy and rich for brown ale.

Reviewed from notes. Pours a fairly-dark brown color with a light tan head and a light touch of lacing. The nose is a bit of light brown malt with some brown sugar, caramel, and a touch of citrus hops. The taste is mostly malt that is slightly bready with a bit of sweetness. Pretty good feel. Not a bad brew, but nothing special. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 11-14-2010

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is caramel malts with a little roasted nuts. Flavor is a little roasted malt but kinda watery in the end. Again I don’t know what hemp seeds taste like so I don’t know if they add anything to the beer. Average brown ale.

The aroma is chocolate, nuts, earthy. The appearance is coke color brown, white head. The flavor is chocolate, nuts, toasted malt, earth. The finish is slightly sweet, piney hops. Medium in body, maybe slightly on the thick side. Not great, not terrible.

Bottle. Poured a coke brown with a tiny white head. Left lots of lacing on the glass. Aroma was earthy, tree, spices and herbs. Flavor was chocolate malts, floral. A weird chewy aftertaste. Not the best.
