COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by the Humboldt Brewing Company until their acquisition by Firestone Walker)

Draft at The Bridge. Pours a cloudy, light brown color with a small, creamy off-white head. Aroma of chocolate malts, earthy hops, toast, nuts, and faint herbs and citrus. Flavor of crackers, earthy hops, chocolate malts, nuts, toast, and grass. Light-bodied, with modest carbonation and a malty, earthy mouthfeel. Really smooth and easy to drink. Nice.

This is a nice little brown ale, if not the most exceptional thing in the world. It is malty roasty and hoppy in about equal degrees and as such pretty well balanced--though perhaps it is a tad on the sweet side. The nose especially has a lot of depth to it. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and a bit sticky with mild carbonation.I have to wonder if these Humboldt brews did not improve after acquisition by Firestone Walker. The beers, as I tried them, seem like they’d be rated higher. Maybe they just happen to be to my taste.

From the tap to a 24oz. mug at the midtown Sacramento location. Cola brown color with a tan head. Aroma is mostly caramel and chocolate malts with some hop notes. Flavor includes sweet malts along with chocolate, nuts, and roasted flavors. Overall this is a very solid brown ale with a nice balance between sweet and roasted characters.

This beer is pretty much what i expected. It smells very earth and tastes like rope or fiber...the taste doesn’t linger on the palate well but does leave you wondering what you just drank. Interesting.

pours almost cola. Has a hint of chocolate and toasted nut. Almost a sun tea flavor. Poured very cold and had barely any head.

12 oz bottle. Pours a medium brown with a small fluffy off white head. Aroma is very basic, sweet malty, a touch chocolate and nutty, sweet and a but of honey and toast. Flavor is much the same, sweet bready malts, a little cocoa and a light roast. Very light bitter finish and smooth with not much else. Medium body and a light crisp carbonation. Not offensive in the slightest, but nothing standing out, so sessionable without being memorable.

Not bad. It has a nice caramel malt aroma from a reddish brown pour with a decent white head. Crystal clear. the flavor is sweet and malty but there is also a hint of sourness that gives it a nice feel. Very smooth as well. The finish is light and refreshing.

Deep dark mahogany color with literally no head. Cocoa nose. Rich chocolate flavor, smooth. nice and comfy. Lack of head detracts.
