spikester (440), Salem, Oregon, USA Jul 20, 2008 This no longer says Humbolt on the bottle. Brewed in Paso Robles, Ca. now. Pours a dark amber with a modest off-white head. Good amount of lacings. Aroma is pungent pine and citrus. First taste is bitter citrus hops enveloped by a very rich malty sweetness. Does not have the crispness most IPAs have. Seems more like a Red-IPA melding. Tasty brew. Also the bottle info shows 6.7% abv. now and I did feel and taste the higher %.
jsh12bama (228), Alabama, USA Oct 13, 2008 Pours amber with thin white soapy head. Aroma of piney hops. Taste has more malty, caramel flavor than expected. Expected more hop bite from the aroma. Slight hoppy bitterness. More like an amber. Just OK. RedSox2004 (177), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Oct 12, 2008 Clear dark amber with a generous 2 finger head that dissipated to a solid ring that left plenty of lacing all the way down. Strong citus hops aromas dominate, but there are definite caramel and toasted malts to balance it out. Taste mirrors the smell, though the flavors are not as strong. Nice creamy mouthfeel, medium carbonation and a clean finish. apshah99 (94), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 28, 2008 Dark amber pour with thin white head, aroma of grapefruit, pine, and a little malt. Taste is smooth and citrusy, slightly sweet, malty, and bready with a hoppy finish. Nice on the palate with good viscous mouthfeel. Note this beer looks a little different than the label pictured and alcohol is up to 6.8%. vyvvy (1756), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Sep 27, 2008 Pours clear bronze with a light tan head. The aroma has pine, grapefruit and earthy hops. There is some noticeable malt, but it is mainly buried under the hop presence. Medium body that’s mildly abrasive with carbonation typical for the style. The flavor is more earthy and piny than the aroma. This is a dry and enjoyable IPA. raphael (279), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 21, 2008 surprisingly good. in bottle. well-balanced hop aroma, tending toward the citrus, not running awry or harsh, a little bit of caramel. Off-white head that doesnt do much, clear deep amber body. Smooth in the motuh, seems light but has a little oil-weight, The flavor balance goes to the hops but the sweet has a sufficient presence, and a little more malt complexity than other IPAs, Warming, with a balanced finish
