COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boasting a ruby hue and an exquisite floral aroma, Red Nectar is a robust yet elegant brew with distinctive accents of toasted malt, caramel, spice and residual sweetness. The beer that started it all… Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution. Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents. (Editor’s Note: originally brewed by Humboldt Brewing Company as "Humboldt Red Nectar Ale" until their acquisition by Firestone Walker.)

Floral and some malt. A hint of Juicy-Juice in aroma. Pours deep copper with a quickly dissapearing head. Light texture with a complex mix of fruit and malt. Some light hops at the end. Ok but not something I would seek out again. Maybe I had a bad bottle.

Bottle. Poured copper with an off-white head that settled to a ring and left light lace. Aroma of citrus rind, floral, and a backing of caramel. The flavor initially found pine and citrus, but moved to floral and caramel as it warmed. Medium body and medium bitterness.

Malt aroma is, by turns, earthy and sugary. Hops have a slight pink aroma. The appearance is red with an orange tinge. Decent, fluffy head. Minor lace. In the flavor, the malts work well here. They are red and spicy, with a finish that is sweeter, like honey (borderline saccharine). Does have a mildly woody hop presence. Feel is silky and slick. A pretty solid red. Not much to distinguish it, but a nice one to knock back.

Bottle from 11.29.11. Pours dark orange with a 2-finger fluffy dark beige head, with some slight lacing. The aromas are sweet, sugary citrus and pine, with some dough. The flavor is sweet berry, some toast/cocoa, and slight bitterness. Good. [948]

Tasted at the 2012 St. Louis Centennial Beer Festival from bottle into sampler glass. Poured a pretty reddish-brown color with some chill haze, persistent off-white head and a little lace. Refined English-style hops aromas, mild citrus, malt, roasted barley, fruity yeast esters. Rich, caramelly, roasty malt sweetness balanced by tart hops flavor. Bitterness is almost too forward, lingering well into the aftertaste, masking what seems to be a complex grainbill. Nonetheless, a tasty, interesting and difficult-to-classify craft beer. Recommended.

12oz bottle from Armanetti’s. Pours a clear, amber-brown colored body with a finger-width, creamy and frothy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is caramel and crystal malt sweetness with some floral oranges and a touch of pine and toast. Flavor is floral throughout with a good amount of caramels and crystal malts up front offering a moderate sweetness. A touch of toast and pine comes in during the middle before this finishes fairly dry with a light-moderate, earthy, slightly piney bitterness with some crystal malt and toast. Lengthy aftertaste following a somewhat thin, smooth body and a soft, medium-light carbonation. Overall, a decent amber ale. Some sweet caramel and crystal malts with a balancing bitterness and hint of toast. Somewhat thin, but not bad.

Caramel malt with light hoppy aroma. Dark amber color. Nice malty flavor with a light hoppy ending. Good smooth palate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Impressive. Deep ruby red body is topped by a thin but clinging white head. The aroma is quite inviting. Caramel, malt, biscuits, spice, and leaves. Medium-full mouthfeel. Very smooth and creamy. The flavor starts slightly bitter with the spice and a touch of leaves. Very interesting. It finishes sweet with the caramel and malt coming through. There’s a slight ash aftertaste. Highly drinkable and delicious.
