(bottle, bought at the brewery) Reddish amber colour with a small beige foam, lacing into a creamy head. Very pleasant smoked beechwood malt aroma with a distinctive fruity note of dark berries. Complex malty taste, not only smoked but slightly roasted malt with a fruity tinge; moderately sweet flavour, smooth carbonation, medium to full body; moderately sweet and smoky finish. A great taste experience.

does not count  Aug 28, 2008 Tasted onsite in Merkendorf. But it was quite unremarkable, although this was the beer I’d looked forward to. This IS my favorite style. But the smoke flavor was almost indistinguishable. Schlenkerla in Bamberg is far and away the ultimate.

Clear medium red brown color with a average to large, frothy - creamy, good lancing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, roasted, caramel, smoke, peat notes, butterscotch notes. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium to light full, texture is oily - syrupy, carbonation is soft. Very nice ;o)) (060608)

Jul 21, 2008 On tap @ In de Wildeman. Amber colour, off white head. Nose of smoke, perfume and malts. Taste is smoke, bitterness and perfume. I like smoked, but this was too much for me. I couldn’t get through to the actual flavours (if there were any).

Jun 13, 2008 Red-brown with a nice, creamy head. The aroma has a lot of nice smoke, hints of peat and sweetness and a touch of butterscotch. The flavour has a nice sweetness, nice smoke and a slightly dry grapefruit bitterness and notes of eel-skin. It’s very harmonic and not too sweet – it’s really nice.
