Hildigöltur (5056), København Ø, Denmark Dec 4, 2006 Draught. Reddish brown coloured. Malty aroma and flavour with a very pleasant mild smokiness. Soft mouthfeel. Well balanced and very quaffable. rauchbier (2877), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England Dec 16, 2006 Draught, at the brewpub, October 2006. Copper bronze, good off white head and gentle condition. Pleasant peppery bitterness, good restrained wood smoke and a gentle malty sweetness in the nose, much the same in the mouth with a solid woody sweet smokiness balanced with a gentle dry bitterness and background grain. Long lingering sweet smoke and restrained dry chalky bitterness in the finish.

Off-white, lightly brown head (rocky, frothy but fastly diminishing). Clear, amber body. Aroma of smoke, wood, ashes, charcoal, smoked ham, citrus, malts (lightly), some soapiness, ... Heavily bitter, lightly sweet flavour with some saltiness (which is not annoying). Very nice complexity of sweet malts combined with smoke. Extremely well balanced. Those Germans do know how to brew decent beer! JorisPPattyn (4638), Antwerpen, Belgium Sep 19, 2005 Draught Clear chestnut brown; very huge built-up creamy head. Woody and smoked, treebranches covered with moss, oak/beechwood, mildly smoked ham aromas. Mild smoked, very malty, and - is it the colour suggesting? - chestnut flour with a bitterish finish. Very good, mild Rauchbier. Medium bodied, oily film in the mouth. Another excellent Rauchbier, in the style of the Rauchzart from Barnikel. harrisoni (5474), Ashford, Kent, England Feb 10, 2006 On tap at Battersea Beer Festival 2006. Chestnut colour with lasting off white head. Smokey bacon aroma. Good in mouth, quite smooth. Bit spicey, but a lovely smokey flavour. Good finish and a refreshing change from all of those bitters, bitters, bitters.....
