wastl (113), Germany Dec 12, 2007 Bottle. Dark amber colour, small to medium off-white head. Average carbonation. Aroma of smoked ham. Very sweet flavour. Strong notes of smoked ham, intensifying towards the finish. Not my kind of beer.
Quack-Duck (1631), Bodensee, Germany May 11, 2008 5l-mini cask. Light amber-brown colour, slightly hazy, large and very creamy beige head. Aroma of smoke. Malty, slightly sweet and very hoppy in the finish. Pleasanlty smokey, especially in the aftertaste. Well-balanced beer with medium carbonation. Very good! diabel (1188), Aarschot, Belgium Nov 2, 2007 Bottled, major thanks to Lach (mullet) for bringing these to me from Bavaria.
Off-white, lightly brown head (rocky, frothy but fastly diminishing). Clear, amber body. Aroma of smoke, wood, ashes, charcoal, smoked ham, citrus, malts (lightly), some soapiness, ... Heavily bitter, lightly sweet flavour with some saltiness (which is not annoying). Very nice complexity of sweet malts combined with smoke. Extremely well balanced. Those Germans do know how to brew decent beer! motelpogo (4111), Plzen, Czech Republic Oct 20, 2007 on tap in merkendorf. deep brown, quite a spritzy texture or a rauch beer, lightly sour smoke aroma, quite subtle - lightly rusty, charcoal, some grassy bitterness, quality stuff Svesse (1499), Hässelby, Sweden Oct 4, 2007 (Draught, unfiltered, by gravity at Akkurat, Stockholm, 26 Sep 2007) Dark brown colour with ruby notes, frothy pale brown head. Malty, slightly spicy nose with smokey notes (like smoked ham). Malty, slightly smokey taste with chocolate and toffee, turning into a finish with generous amounts of spicy hops. Very nice balance between smoke, malt and hops. Good complexity, with the elements mingling well together. Lovely stuff.
