Maria (10191) - Thisted, DENMARK - AUG 1, 2008
The color is very beautiful red-brown and the head is creamy. The aroma has notes of smoke and malt. The flavour has a perfect, not too strong sweetness, a very clean note of smoke, a slightly sour note of malt and it ends on a light, citrussy bitter note. It’s quite nice.

5l-mini cask. Light amber-brown colour, slightly hazy, large and very creamy beige head. Aroma of smoke. Malty, slightly sweet and very hoppy in the finish. Pleasanlty smokey, especially in the aftertaste. Well-balanced beer with medium carbonation. Very good!

Bottle. Dark amber colour, small to medium off-white head. Average carbonation. Aroma of smoked ham. Very sweet flavour. Strong notes of smoked ham, intensifying towards the finish. Not my kind of beer.

Bottled, major thanks to Lach (mullet) for bringing these to me from Bavaria.
Off-white, lightly brown head (rocky, frothy but fastly diminishing). Clear, amber body. Aroma of smoke, wood, ashes, charcoal, smoked ham, citrus, malts (lightly), some soapiness, ... Heavily bitter, lightly sweet flavour with some saltiness (which is not annoying). Very nice complexity of sweet malts combined with smoke. Extremely well balanced. Those Germans do know how to brew decent beer!

on tap in merkendorf. deep brown, quite a spritzy texture or a rauch beer, lightly sour smoke aroma, quite subtle - lightly rusty, charcoal, some grassy bitterness, quality stuff

Svesse (6967) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - OCT 4, 2007
(Draught, unfiltered, by gravity at Akkurat, Stockholm, 26 Sep 2007) Dark brown colour with ruby notes, frothy pale brown head. Malty, slightly spicy nose with smokey notes (like smoked ham). Malty, slightly smokey taste with chocolate and toffee, turning into a finish with generous amounts of spicy hops. Very nice balance between smoke, malt and hops. Good complexity, with the elements mingling well together. Lovely stuff.

Geiserich (3733) - Linz, AUSTRIA - JUN 7, 2007
Draught, at the brewpub. Chestnut brown color, few carbonation, off-white head. Smoky, astringent and dry flavor. Notes of smoke, bacon, tabac and light fruity. Malty, few sweet and medium bodied. Not extreme smoked but well balanced and complex.

Typical translucent rauchbier look with a good dense head & webby lacing. Sweet aroma, with obviously some of that Bamberg-style smoked malt but not nearly as overwhelming as their Raucherator. The smokiness is a bit peaty, reminding of whisky. The taste is soft and actually quite balanced for a rauchbier, with some of that vanilla sweetness from the aroma, plus pleasant Noble-hops, and that peaty smoked malt. Lacked boldness or character though, despite the nice balance. Short & watery finish. Mouthfeel was a bit thin, with medium/high carbonation. This was like a Rauchbier-light, and it doesn’t have shit on the rauch-behemots from Schlenkerla or even its big brother Raucherator, but it’s not bad at all.

downender (7040) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - APR 14, 2007
Bottle bought at 2006 St Albans beer festival. Dark chestnut colour with a decent beige head. Aroma had hints of smoked beechwood with some malt. Smoked flavour kept under control allowing bitterness to come through. A slightly sweet finish. A very easy to drink Rauchbier.

rauchbier (3667) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - DEC 16, 2006
Draught, at the brewpub, October 2006. Copper bronze, good off white head and gentle condition. Pleasant peppery bitterness, good restrained wood smoke and a gentle malty sweetness in the nose, much the same in the mouth with a solid woody sweet smokiness balanced with a gentle dry bitterness and background grain. Long lingering sweet smoke and restrained dry chalky bitterness in the finish.
