Draft @ Hummel keller. In krug. Appears brown, has lasting cap. Super smokey aroma is bacony and inviting. Silky palate. Dry and sweet at the same time, an excellent flavor sensation with remarkable smoke character. Outstanding!

2011-02-11, draught at the brauhaus, 8-5-8-4-17=42
Amber color, clean; with creamy head. Strong aroma of smoked sausage, malt. Good body, good caramel flavor, with some sweetness in the front and more roasted character in the end; the smoke is quite strong, more dry (due to the darker malts) than sour. Correct bitterness. Excellent.

2010-05-16, cask at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen, 8-5-7-4-15=39
Dark amber color. Aroma of smoked and almost burnt wood, a bit dusty but pleasant. Dark caramel flavor, strong bitterness, caramelized sugars, some smokey touch, not prominent. Very good beer, even if it has too much caramelized sugars and bitterness from the dark caramel.

2010-02-24, draught at Ølbaren, Copenhagen, 8-5-7-4-16=40
Dark amber color; creamy head. Very nice aroma of smoke, clean, and caramel; it’s actually possible to feel some crispy malt. It’s too much carbonated, so the body doesn’t seem to be very strong; it has a dark caramel flavor, quite dry, mostly in the end, when something similar to chocolate also appear; it has a mild smoke character, overwhelmed by the dark caramel, while some sweetness would boost it, and even ashes in the end; again, a pleasant trace of crispy malt appears. Very good.

Dark amber color; creamy head. Strong smokey aroma, smoked sausages. Good caramel flavor, enough sweetness to create a round body, with smoked malt and good bitterness level. Delicious.

On tap at Battersea Beer Festival 2006. Chestnut colour with lasting off white head. Smokey bacon aroma. Good in mouth, quite smooth. Bit spicey, but a lovely smokey flavour. Good finish and a refreshing change from all of those bitters, bitters, bitters.....

rauchbier (3394) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - DEC 16, 2006
Draught, at the brewpub, October 2006. Copper bronze, good off white head and gentle condition. Pleasant peppery bitterness, good restrained wood smoke and a gentle malty sweetness in the nose, much the same in the mouth with a solid woody sweet smokiness balanced with a gentle dry bitterness and background grain. Long lingering sweet smoke and restrained dry chalky bitterness in the finish.

Bottled, major thanks to Lach (mullet) for bringing these to me from Bavaria.
Off-white, lightly brown head (rocky, frothy but fastly diminishing). Clear, amber body. Aroma of smoke, wood, ashes, charcoal, smoked ham, citrus, malts (lightly), some soapiness, ... Heavily bitter, lightly sweet flavour with some saltiness (which is not annoying). Very nice complexity of sweet malts combined with smoke. Extremely well balanced. Those Germans do know how to brew decent beer!

Draught Clear chestnut brown; very huge built-up creamy head. Woody and smoked, treebranches covered with moss, oak/beechwood, mildly smoked ham aromas. Mild smoked, very malty, and - is it the colour suggesting? - chestnut flour with a bitterish finish. Very good, mild Rauchbier. Medium bodied, oily film in the mouth. Another excellent Rauchbier, in the style of the Rauchzart from Barnikel.
