3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 HogTownHarry (5639) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - AUG 24, 2012
Handpull at The Wheatsheaf (Southwark). Pale clear gold, smallish forthy off-white head. Aroma of grain and honey, floral rather than grassy, no alcohol. Taste follows - simple, unchallenging, fairly clean, but also a little sweeter than I like - crosses over from honey to syrup, a bit. Slick, syrupy, weakly carbonated, quick finishing and ultimately floral and sweet. Not bad, nothing special.
3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 BlackHaddock (2362) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 9, 2012
Nov 2011: Hand pulled pint in the excellent ‘Maypole,’ Cambridge, England.
The beer looked a lovely golden, light amber colour, the head being white and a little on the thin side. Good lacing however appeared on the UK sleeve glass as the beer level sank, so although the original head seemed sparse it did have enough strength to produce the lacing.
I found Hops in the aroma (Cascade, I believe); not much of anything else really.
The taste was initially semi-citrus (mild lemon and grapefruit) with a sweeter malt middle and finish that counteracted the hop bitterness nicely.
Inoffensive and ordinary more than exciting and invigorating: well made but not pushing any boundaries. I actually liked it, easy to drink and if I hadn’t been on a mission I would have stayed and had a session on this beer.

Cask at the Bricklayers Arms Norfolk & Suffolk festival, 23rd Sept 2010. Bright clear gold, line of white head. Dusty, dry nose, a bit plastery. On the tongue it’s got the strange combination of smoked cheese and lemons. Hefty palate for the strength. A decent pint but nothing stunning.
