Bottle. Black with a thin head. Aromas are dark chocolate and coffee with liquorice. Nutty and woody with hints of caramel. Flavours are earthy, roast malts with dark chocolate bitterness. Sweet chocolate with more grapefruit bitterness on the finish than expected. Dry on the aftertaste. A nice traditional stout.

Bottle at cgarvieuk’s Danish Invasion tasting. Black pour, thin tan head. Roasty malt nose, dark chocolate, roasted barley. Bitter chocolate, coffee grounds and more roast barley on the palate with a long burnt finish. Not bad.

Cask@Kings Head, Norwich. Very much pitch black colourr, small brown head. Aroma is liquorice, mild sweet malts and some smoked wet wood. Flavour is roasted malts,s ome toast, smoked wet wood as well as liquorice and some mild toffee.

Cask (gravity) - Norwich Beer Festival 2011. Poured with a medium sized, though thinning dark tan head leaving a loose & heavy lace atop an opaque brown, near black, body. Roasted malts, coffee, some ash in terms of general profile. Dark fruits on the nose. Lingering burnt bitterness. Medium body, soft mouthfeel & quite chewy for the ABV. Rich & full of flavour.
