Pours very dark, with deep red edges and a rocky light tan head. The aroma is coffee, earthy spicy hops and a slight touch of chocolate. Taste is sweet caramel malts with a slightly roasted note, with bitter chocolate, hickory and smooth coffee. Medium bodied and a very drinkable stout.

Draft at the brewery. Dark brown almost black with a short head and a little lacing. Very slight aroma of chocolate malt. Good mouth feel. I thought the hop/malt mixture very good for a dry stout. Very drinkable.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 prosqtor (408) - Appleton, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 7, 2007
Had a sample at the brewpub, then bought a growler to go.
Took it back to my room, let it chill a bit (it was 90+ out), and then poured into both a pint and a rocks glass. Interesting exploration followed, with a tantalizing beginning. My senses were piqued by the head, with minimal lace. Strong finish left me wanting more, and thinking about this one for days afterward. A nice climax to a very enjoyable trip to the South. Hoping I can experience this one again, just need to figure out a way to get over there.

Columbia, SC- In a growler. Nice mellow head, with little lacing. Wonderful mixture of soft coffee and strong smokiness. Enjoyable drink that stays with you. Smooth finish, very smooth. I’ll take a growler to go.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 PorterPounder (4609) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JUL 5, 2007
Columbia, SC- On tap at the brewpub - Pours a dark ruby red with a light off-white creamy head. Slightly sweet coffee aroma and a touch of ripening fruit. Flavor has some nice chocolate elements to add to the coffee roastiness wihth a back end of wine. Mouthfeel - decently thick, overall a very decent brewpub stout.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 NachlamSie (2345) - Tennessee, USA - JAN 4, 2007
Draught. Pours a super-deep opaque red with a small tan head. The nose sports toasted oats, coffee, and some faint DMS. There’s solid soy sauce in flavor, tart nuttiness, and sparkling, acidic coffee notes. The finish is dense of hearty oats with chocolate overtones and is slightly drying. A pretty decent bitter stout. Well done.
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 crizay (1050) - Brook Park, Ohio, USA - DEC 21, 2006
Dark black pour, small beige head. Chocolate and coffee come through but then leave a dry chalky and irony aftertaste. Another beer from them that’s overloaded with hops and is too bitter.
