Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Brown to copper with no head. Tart, fruity with hints of sour cherry. Flat and poor. This is supposedly in one of the better Spoons.

Bottled. A dark brown coloured beer with an off-white ring of head. Sour and fruity in the nose with chocolate malts. Seems a bit boozy. Sherry and oxidized notes too. The sourness isn’t really welcome and it’s a bit odd, but I quite enjoyed it.

Dark copper colour, not as dark as a "dark ale" but described as suxh. Creamy head. Aromas malty, slightly fruity. Not quite as dark or intense in flavour as expected but a reasonable bitter.

(pasterurised bottle.) I only bought this because it claimed to be a "dark ale" on the bottle label , my cynical eye assumed this would just be a dull bitter; a plesant one but they’rte usully plesant but dull as anything. Some sweet butterscotch...dry estery aplle acidity...faint and dry .

Cask (gravity dispense) at Reading Beer Festival, 30 April 2009. Dark copper colour. Moderate condition. Loose beige head. Slightly clammy malt aroma. Better flavour. Dry and malty with some late bitterness. Touches of fruit. A bit smoky. Pleasant firm mouthfeel. Decent balance.

Cask gravity at Reading BF 09. Deep chestnut, lasting beige head. Bit of ashtray. It’s ok, smoke/ashtray. Bit of dark fruit on the malts.
