Was so lucky to get a bottle of this from ebay. Best before date: 1991. Was wondering, if it is still drinkable. Yes, it was! Looks good in the glass for it’s age. Very old, smoky aroma. Starts a bit vapid, woody. The finish is scratchy, like wood again, not really dry. Surprising good!

Bottled. This is one of the best dulkel / muchener ever made. Nice deep brown colour with a caramel chocolate nose. Good lenght. A shame that it is not brewed anymore.

1994 bottle consumed 12/21/2000. Copper and white head. Floral and fruity with flowery hoppy notes as the beer warms. Sugary and sweet with a bitter finish.

If you should ever see this on a shelf do yourself a favor and run the other way. This may at one time have been a decent beer. It ages terribly. I thought, from the label, was buying a malt liquor. What I got was nothing more than a dark beer gone bad. Imagine a cross between Heinies and Becks Dark with Gramma’s attic dust and some playground dirt tossed in. Drainpour!
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Admiral (524) - Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 3, 2004
Purchased this afternoon for one dollar at a little second-hand store, found on a shelf mainly inhabited by empty bottles of long-dead American regionals. Practically opaque brown beer, dense light tan head. Aroma of malt and caramel. Flavor extremely malty, caramel, some roast and hints of dried fruit. Very faint hop grassiness. Medium to full body. Very drinkable, although I really should savor it slowly since it’s been discontinued. Quite good.

Decent color with a little head and no lace whatsoever. Decent in the mouth,, quite full, but not what I was hoping for. Pretty smooth finish.

Yum! Beautiful dark color. Strong malt aroma and you can smell the alcohol under it. Small head. No lace. Very rich full body. Nice and smooth finish.

Apparently, this beer is brewed only during a full moon. Hurlimann seems to like the stronger beers (Samichlaus) and this is no exception - I could taste quite a bit of alcohol in with all that malt. A pricey brew, too.

Everything a ’Dark’ (Dunkel) should be, and Beck’s/Heineken is not. Great dark brown color, malty aroma and taste, no ’cheapness’ detected. Slightly sweet.
