On tap- Served an amber color with a small head and bits of lacing. Mild aroma of roasted malt, some nuttiness and grain. Flavor of roasted nuts and caramel sweetness. has a mild bitterness and a clean finish. Fairly medium body, smooth but not very robust. Decent drinker, even though it seemed a bit bland.

Serving: Draft at the brewpub. It pours a hazy amber with a small, off-white head. The nose is malty and sweet. The flavor has some honey, bread, and malt. Lighter in body than I was expecting. Average carbonation. Not bad.

Tap. Pours a dark reddish color with nice white head. Smell is malty and taste is sweet with a malty finish. Not a bad red, though not my preferred style. If ever in Fayetteville again I will stop by and try more.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ChainGangGuy (3837) - Canton, Georgia, USA - JAN 7, 2009
Appearance: Clearish, garnet-hued body with a thin, bubbly, off-white head.
Smell: Scent of caramelized grains with notes of roast and maybe even coffee. Mild note of fruit.
Taste: Tasty 50/50 blend of roasted and toasted nuts with a light caramel sweetness and added pinch of cocoa powder. Light touch of fruit. A vaguely earthy, light bitterness comes in, making way for the dry, nutty, and again even a bit roasty finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Exhibiting some malt traits more commonly found in many fine brown ales, this hybrid, this lovable mutt brew takes what can be a mass-produced snoozefest of a style (I’m looking at you, Murphy’s) and bolsters it with added depth and charm.
