Arctic Circle Ale is somewhat akin to an alpine liqueur with a dose of hops. The juniper expression is not crisp as in gin but more balanced with the malt such that the bitterness and vegetal character is more evident than any piney character. Carbonation is restrained.

Bottle. It pours hazy deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is wood, earth, peppery, spice, earth, a touch HP sauce and faint smoke. The taste is caramel, candy, peppery, wood, earth, light alcohol, dirt and twigs with a dry, bitterish finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and slightly sticky mouth. Interesting.

This Finnish Barleywine-style English strong ale is rich in dark, rye malts and sugary sweet. Dark copper brown color with white head and light lacing. Bold brew to say the least.

Pours a clear deep red, with no head except for a thin offwhite film. The aroma is dominated by malt, with dried fruits, dark bread, caramel and burnt sugar. There are also a lot of spicy aromas going on, a "dry" and dusty aroma of juniper berries, as well as rye and the yeast that imparts a very pleasant spicy feel, and there are also some notes of charred oak. The taste is very sweet, with a slightly tart finish. The mouthfeel is slightly thick and with soft carbonation. Overall, this beer is terrific and well worth the money. It’s also somewhat similar to Nøgne Ø’s Imperial Brown Ale.

Amber coloured and almost clear. Has a white head, medium duration. Aroma is starting sweet, light spicy aroma, fresh water, hardly any juniper. Flavor starts sweet too, creamy, dry bitterness.

Now and then I like to test my tasting capabilities, so I had this without knowing what kind of beer it is, a fun experiment! The body is very dark brown with a long-lived, light brown head leaving a good deal of lacing. The strong aroma initially feels mainly malty, with roasted notes and mild coffee, so at first I thought this is a porter, maybe a stout. After a short while more hops come creeping in, with fruits and berries, and soon it feels more like a malty BIPA. Then an exciting turn: I get lots of pine needles and juniper, and these notes just keep increasing. The flavours are strong with dominant hoppy notes and lots and lots of resin, pine needles and spicy juniper. It didn’t come as a surprise when I learned that the Arctic Circle is brewed with juniper twigs! The roasted malty notes and coffee are in the back. The taste is moderate sweet and the fairly long-lasting finish is quite heavy bitter. Medium body, oily texture with a dry finish, soft carbonation. A very interesting, complex and tasty beer.
