Huvila Arctic Circle Ale is a chestnut coloured ale with a malty/fruity odour. It tastes of dark fruits and caramel malts and finishes off with a nice bitter hop tail. It is brewed with both juniper twigs and a large dose of Finnish attitude. It is available on tap an in bottles in bars and restaurants across Finland. The beer has also featured among the seasonal Christmas beers at Alko, the Finnish monopoly retail distributor of beers with more than 4.7% Alc. Arctic Circle Ale is also imported into the US through Shelton Brothers.

50 cl. bottle. Amber-red colour with no head, just a thin ring around the edges of the glass. Spicy aroma with the juniper very pungent. Caramel malts, bread, nuts, dark, dried fruits and alcohol. Taste is sweet. Medium body, flat carbonation. Spicy finish with rich malts and juniper. If you´re a kind of juniper-guy this is certainly the beer for you. Enjoyable, even if I wonder, the beer should be so little carbonated.

500 mL bottle. I’m a big fan of this sort of traditional ale. Chestnut brown with a nice head. You get the berries in the nose and in the flavour, where the malt balances nicely. Not too sweet, though. If you like Traquair House Ale, you’ll like this.

Rating #10 for this beer.

Wow, this one kicks ass. What a pleasant surprise! Deep brown pour, hazy, nice light-tan head. Sweet, molasses-brown-bread with agar aroma. Sweet flavor, brown sugar / molasses and raisin, but under it a nice juniper spiciness and resin that I find both a surprising complement to a sweet dark ale and a very successful complement. Great mouthfeel, no heat, extremely drinkable. It’s sweet (recalling some of the other dark beers from Scandinavia) but if one takes that in stride it’s a really neat piece of brewing. I’m delighted to have had the chance to try this one.

Huge fluffy tan/fawn head, stripes and carpets inside mug, hazy copper body. Scents of roasted fruity malts, spicy hops, smoked dried prunes, notes of juniper bushes. Full taste of roasted caramel malts, grilled prunes, some spices, maybe a tiny juniper. Modest carbonation suits the brew well. Good body. Sweet-bitter roasted feel. Finishes with some warmth, roasted malts, herbs, hops, black prunes, fruity-bitter, nice. Brown 50cl btl abv7.3% b@Vinmonopolet Langnes Tromsø, T@home.

Bottle picked up somewhere in Denver. Great woody/spicy juniper aroma. Taste is more subtle, dark and earthy. Would love another.

16.9 oz bottle. Pours deep deep brown with amber highlights; has a small beige collapsing head. Aroma consists of toasted bread, toasted marshmallows (on the burnt side), woodsy, overripe dark fruit--interesting, I don’t think I’ve ever smelled a beer quite like this before. Taste is malty sweet with a European bent; it’s reminiscent of Samuel Smith’s dark beers; finish is quite bitter, though. Mouthfeel is creamy, body thin to medium, carbonation soft. It’s good, but not exactly a masterpiece.

TET (1751) - FINLAND - NOV 27, 2010
UPDATED: DEC 22, 2013 A dark brown beer with an almost medium and beige head. The nose is pleasant, strongly juniper with juniper berries, malts, liquirice, sweetness, pine needles and hint of smoke. The taste is also good, malts, roastiness, some ryebread and pine forest, wooden bitterness. The end is quite dry, thus lots of hops are used. Surprisingly, quite light to drink, medium bodied and smooth to drink. Succesfull and tastefull beer. Interesting and strong juniper touch, still great balance.

Et nydelig øl med en herlig krydret dyft av pepper og lakris. Lun og god smak med en ettersmak av lakris og malt. Et øl som ikke må være for kaldt. Godt øl som anbefales. Mørk nøttebrun farge nesten uten skum.
