Huvila Arctic Circle Ale is a chestnut coloured ale with a malty/fruity odour. It tastes of dark fruits and caramel malts and finishes off with a nice bitter hop tail. It is brewed with both juniper twigs and a large dose of Finnish attitude. It is available on tap an in bottles in bars and restaurants across Finland. The beer has also featured among the seasonal Christmas beers at Alko, the Finnish monopoly retail distributor of beers with more than 4.7% Alc. Arctic Circle Ale is also imported into the US through Shelton Brothers.

Bottle. It pours an almost clear, copper colored body under a small, light beige head. The aroma has bread and toffe dominating, both quite weak, and there’s also a light spiced touch. Licorice, bread, caramel and some herbal thing in the flavor, a nice herbal and licorice touch finishing it all. Medium to full body, semi-dry on the palate. An unusual and quite pleasant beer. 130508

Bottled. Deep ruby color, small steady beige head, lace. Rye, dark fruits, licorice, cocoa powder, bread and wood in the nose. Lots of caramel, cocoa, raisins, spices, some hops in the finish. Above average body. Some alcohol in the aftertaste. I can’t trace juniper. Quite interesting brew from Huvila.
