It is brewed with both juniper twigs and a large dose of Finnish attitude. It is available on tap an in bottles in bars and restaurants across Finland. The beer has also featured among the seasonal Christmas beers at Alko, the Finnish monopoly retail distributor of beers with more than 4.7% Alc. Caramel, toffee, and dark fruits in the aroma. Malty flavor, with toffee and caramel. Alcohol dryness in the finish. I had never heard of this beer and didn’t know what to expect, but this is really, really good.

mikkopen (854) - Oulu, FINLAND - NOV 9, 2010
500 ml bottle. Deep dark ruby brown colour, decent light beige head. Aroma of sweet dark fruits, caramel malts and a hint of rye. The flavour is not quite as sweet, more roasted, malty, with dried fruits and a nicely lingering bitter finish. Medium to full-bodied, softly carbonated.

Draught. Dark with beige head. Malty aroma with a certain juniper scent, which also comes across in flavour. Flavour is sweet and has dark fruits to it, and some bitterness to keep the balance. Very decent.

ryecatcher (803) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 25, 2014
Bottle. Pours a dark, mahogany brown, medium tannish head with decent retention and excellent lacing. Nose is big malts, dried fruit (raisins and currants in particular), some slight woodiness, toffee. Mouth is medium bodied, mild sweetness, malt forward, lotta toasted pumpernickel and molasses, figs, dates, prunes, caramel, faint bitterness at the finish. Not getting any Juniper, but this bottle was on sale at 50% off from Binny’s, so it may be past it’s prime freshness. Still a tasty brew to welcome the newest Finn, and Chicago Blackhawk, Teuvo Teravainen, to the NHL. Kippis!

I had this at Global Brew. Pours a burgandy with a tan head. Taste slightly sweet, dark fruits possibly cranberries or juniper berries. I thought this was so so. I would not drink this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Light brown, slightly hazy, beige head. Aroma of nutty, toasty, bready malt with a woody, earth, juniper note. Flavor is malt balanced--bready, a little toffee, slightly nutty, followed by a woody, dusty/earthy note with a moderate juniper character. They apparently did not use the traditional farmhouse Sahti yeast with this (no clove-like phenols, etc.), instead, its a pretty clean yeast. Overall an interesting, malty and rustic beer.
