Cask (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Kekri2009)
Huge spicy fruity aroma - strawberry and plenty of aromatic hops too. Deep copper, small head. Rich bitter body, carbonation low. Barky bitterness, some saccharine. Tangy and a bit drying. Certainly better than the keg version, but hasn’t wowed me as much as I had oped. Covers 7.3% very well. the finish is very junipery, and spicy. Full-flavoured, but clean.

Keg (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Kekri 2008)
Rich reddy brown, tight off-white head. Sweet aroma of rotting fruits, including banana. Big bold taste - loads of medium-roasted malt, quite brown-ale-like, and plenty of bitterness. Smooth silky mouthfeel. A little more of the sour fruits and berries. Decent burntness. Long bitter and burnt finish. Slightly too ’keggy’, I’d like to see a real ale version of this. However, it’s a touch unsophisticated - seems geared for the American market which cares less about delicate details.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Deep amber pour with a bit of soft fruity character. A little bit minty with some nice peppery character. There’s a soft sort of peppery character with a nice bit of light ethanol. Moderate bitterness and a little bit of light fruit. Some nice peppery notes. There is a touch of honey and some nice lingering hop flavour. I like it.
