Huvila Arctic Circle Ale is a chestnut coloured ale with a malty/fruity odour. It tastes of dark fruits and caramel malts and finishes off with a nice bitter hop tail. It is brewed with both juniper twigs and a large dose of Finnish attitude. It is available on tap an in bottles in bars and restaurants across Finland. The beer has also featured among the seasonal Christmas beers at Alko, the Finnish monopoly retail distributor of beers with more than 4.7% Alc. Arctic Circle Ale is also imported into the US through Shelton Brothers.

Bottled (thanks to Markku for this one!). Hazy deep brown colour, mediumsized beige creamy head. Nice lace. Aroma is lots of plum, raisins and some wooden notes. Mild juniperlie notes as well. Flavour is plum, spices, alcohol, sweet malts as well as some wood, licorice and toffee. Interesting and rather different from the otherwise not-too-experimental Huvila. As it warms up it gets quite ashy notes in the flavour as well.

(bottle - 500 ml) Ruby red color with a fizzy off-white head. Aroma is loaded with hints of pine, juniper, malts, and caramel. Flavor is much the same. A good amount of pine and sweet malts at the beginning with a malty and light chocolate middle coming quick behind it. Fruity and piney at the finish with a light sweetness that lingers.

Murky chestnut pour reveals some sticky lacing left by a 1/2 inch eggshell head. Aroma of raisin, brown sugar, and spice. Flavor is buttermilk biscuit, honey, roasted malt and only the slightest inclusion of juniper. Medium mouthfeel. Tasty.

Picked up during a trip to Baton Rouge. Not my first Sahti, but my first Sahti that was brewed in Finland. Excited to try this one, as it is also my first beer from Finland. The beer pours a dark brown-orange color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the caramel and toffee malt. I don’t get the juniper in the aroma. That being said, the juniper is present in the flavor. I also get some smoked malt and and toffee, as well as a little bit of chocolate. All of the flavors meld well together and make an enjoyable beer. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

(50cl bottle thanks to Mora2000) clear gold-orange with a ring of fine tan bubbles. Nose of nuts, brown sugar, and rich. Taste of brown sugar, toasty caramel, raw sweet grains, mild oxidation but welcome in this case, and a great palate linger.
