COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Huvila Arctic Circle Ale is a chestnut coloured ale with a malty/fruity odour. It tastes of dark fruits and caramel malts and finishes off with a nice bitter hop tail. It is brewed with both juniper twigs and a large dose of Finnish attitude. It is available on tap an in bottles in bars and restaurants across Finland. The beer has also featured among the seasonal Christmas beers at Alko, the Finnish monopoly retail distributor of beers with more than 4.7% Alc. Arctic Circle Ale is also imported into the US through Shelton Brothers.

mmmbeer (1241) - Austin, Texas, USA - OCT 7, 2009
UPDATED: OCT 8, 2009 1 pt. .9 oz bottle (from Liquid Solutions) served in shaker- poured a non transparent black when held to a light source with shades of dark brown, no carbonation, aroma of malt, 24hr pot coffee aroma (trust me, there is a difference), and bones. Hits the mouth with a very high medium body, the malt is just too overpowering, omg, OMG.... (shakes his head and says, "I GOT THIS"). Malt is on the high end when the soul of the brew comes out to play, hard in the middle, but still puts up a fight, finish lingers badly, and in the bad way, slapnuts. No heady words here, just that it could have been better. I picture me in a long forgotten rest way cabin, and I dreampt (sp? )I found this brew. Yeah, dream. Dream what could have been too little, too late for late for me...

vyvvy (3951) - Florissant, Missouri, USA - NOV 5, 2009
Pours reddish bronze with a sudsy tan head. The aroma has creamy toasted malt, light doughiness and a slick woodiness. Medium slick body with light carbonation. The flavor begins with dry caramel with some woodiness, dry spiciness and some oxidation that doesn’t really detract too much and fits in okay. The finish has a dry pininess (not hops) and toasted malt with an odd flavor that is probably the juniper twigs. An interesting beer that’s worth giving a shot.

crackedmachine (470) - Seattle, Washington, USA - NOV 16, 2009
Pours a dark but not opaque red-brown with a fizzy head. The aroma is of sweet malt, and the flavor follows suit. Sweet and slightly bitter. The juniper twigs appeared to contribute some bitterness, but not much else. Nice, but not sufficiently different from some other malty, strong European ales to merit the very high price. Listening to some Finnish metal or sitting in a snowy forest would enhance my enjoyment of this.

Cloudy dark brown beer made with rye as well as juniper. Semi dry palate. Rich malt and rye with some rye spiciness. A little fruit from the hop and quite a bitter finish. Fruity aromatic aftertaste. A bit off the beaten track!

2012-01-19. Brown body with a nice tan head. 3+ Modest aroma, dry dusty malt, interesting fruit character - juniper notes? Sweet toasty malt accents. 6+ Flavour is similar, dry malt light fruity juniper notes throughout, sort of a grainy undercurrent. 6+ Average bodied palate is surprisingly light for the abv. Okay, it doesn’t quite come together for me today, but it is decent.Bottle shared by JoeMcPhee

[4265-20120120] 1pt0.9floz bottle. Grainy heavily toasted malt aroma has just a hint of licorice bark. Slightly hazy, brown amber body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Toasted bread malt flavour has muted grains but a bold base. Medium-full body. Tasty, drinkable but not seeking pints. (6/3+/7/3/14) 3.3

0,5l bottle. Dark copper color. No head flat. Cranberries, fruits, mild alcohol in aroma. Cranberries, dark dry chocolate, mild bitter body. Can’t really taste alcohol in flavor, but i feel it rushing through my body.

Ernest (6200) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 13, 2009
Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread/nuts, caramel), lightly to moderately hoppy (resin, orange/grapefruit), with notes of toffee, vanilla. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Hard to tell if the evergreen character is from hops or twigs or both, but regardless this just isn’t that exciting.
